Questions about Mushroom Cultivation
    #3255373 - 10/20/04 09:13 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

Hello,

I am studying on growing my own mushrooms. Now I have a QQuestion, I think many more will follow. Those will I also post in this thread.

Geolite can be used in the bottom of the fruiting chamber. Which size of Geolite does that need to be?

Can I make the cake from crushed geolite as well?

TIA!

-Yes, whatever size... people have used lava rocks, so marble- golf ball size.

Can I make the cake from crushed geolite as well?
-No. Stick to the teks. Read read read..Follow one of the simple pf teks for now and get a grip on how things go...then do it again and start to do things you think will work.

Thanks Dobinky,

Now I have another question, in the PF TEk and different other "grow guides" it says that one should make 4 holes in the lid of the jar where the cake is in.
Then you should pressure cook it with those holes sealed with tape.

Question: Why not making those holes after the pressure cooking? Much less risk that water gets in?

TIAA! :P

You might damage the lid and disturb the dry verm. layer. I don't tape the holes at all. I just put a sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil over them. The water that could enter drips from the top of your PC and the foil keeps it out.

LOL that was the only thing I could think of...

Question:
Could I use a sandwichplastic bag to cover it?

I actually dont have a pressure cooker I will be using a large pan with the lid on...

>Why not making those holes after the pressure cooking?

The main reason is that you could easily bring in contaminants while doing this.

Im planning to grow the Cubensis Ecuador the first time.

I found several sites where I can buy syringe.

And once more TIA!

It would probably melt. I would stick to the foil. Never used anything else so I don't honestly know.
