anyone care to recommend a cheap and accurate humidiy gauge that can sit inside a 90% RH terrarium? all the one's at *mart aren't meant for "outdoor" humidity measuring, which i assume means they can't get wet.

yah those have a bit of paper that constricts and contracts to show the measurement. thats why it cant get wet. my advice is go electronic or go without. a good thermometer/hygrometer combo can be found at audioshack for appx $25 cdn/$15 us. i loaned mine to a friend 3 months ago, things have been fine since without it, its more stuff to worry you.

I bought a Springfield "PreciseTemp" digital thermometer/hygrometer combo at Wal-mart for $14.99. Works great although you have to place the whole unit inside the terrarium (the external sensor is for temperature only).

well what i've noticed with mine is that any humidity over 98% will cause it to shut down, the temp will still show but the humidity gauge just shuts down. So most electronic ones are fine; mine is a Bionaire.

No, having the digital unit inside the terrarium hasn't destroyed it at 77?F and 99% humidity.. not yet at least. ;)
