nothing stirrs up shit faster than giving the shroomery a new look. i remember the original look. that was pretty cool, i liked the sidebar with thte little images.
well now that we got a new admin, i dont see why we should have the original look. not to sayy aphex and ythan had no style. :) its just that the color scheme looks like a passenger train from the 80s :) and when the donkey was still kicking it seemed to be the main reason people had to trash the shroomery (spankery) saying it was hurtful to their eyes and puke-colored.
heres where i come in. im a graphic desighner. i can draw anything. anything at all. and im pretty good with colors. John allen had lots of stuff too and tons of images that are his domain. and GGreatone234 has some great high-quality images. right now. the shroomery is sorta bland. not particularly graphical. I THINK it needs some shrooms.
i beleive nobody uses graphic-light browsers anymore, and if anybody has a slow enough connection that they have trouble veiwing sites like this well too bad :(
but you know. the shroomery is slow lately. fast-loading, but slow to connect. if you can have patience for the connection time, you can handle the extra few seconds of images once it begins loading :)
i propose a commitee. i would also like to spearhead the campain. i would hope talented voulenteers would also paticipate.
FURTHERMORE.
with all the images people upload, i think it would be a considerable idea that the shroomery could host small member websites. an HTML file is smaller that a bulliten board thread. and contains considerably less images that are saved by the average person in the shroomery forum :)
just some ideas. if anyone likes them i dont want to go half-way. id like to get it done, make it look nice, submit it for evaluation, then IF its approoved, update all at once to avoid server downtime.
a shrromery for shroomerties. :)
ive also noticed a decline in the use of the galleries.
look at erowid, or the lycaeum, theyve updated their style a bit (too bad its not more user-friendly towards non-sceince oriented users)
so yah, ill let these thoughts bubble around like some hash in a pipe and see if anything sparks up..

WOW.... If you could have taken my thoughts out of my head and put them in this post.... My god, I've been thinking and talking about this lately.. I think its time we made a New Shroomery front page and a whole new look for the website..
I want the galleries to be expanded, I want this website to be looking awesome.... I know we have many talented individuals here and I think getting a commitee together is a GREAT idea, something again that I was thinking of... Do you read minds mitchnast? 
This would be a big project, but well worth it..... btw we are looking at getting an even better server, so fear not this slowness should be a thing of the past....
So who wants to join mitchnasts "Shroomery Improvement Commitee"??

Thor and I were talking about that..... It will be a good amount of work but I think we can handle it. There definately needs to be more/better graphics, change from the yellow/orange, etc. Do you have ICQ (www.icq.com) Mitch? If not you should get it so that we can talk. I have an idea for an intro page that you come to before acutally entering the site. I will draw a sketch and scan it later. I was thinking maybe we should come up with a type of shroomery mascot/character....

ohyeah, and an update to the grow/find section. starting with better, more complete and more accurate info in the "find" section. complete with a few more of the common speceis and updated info.
and the grow section would do better with real growing images and real setup bics and maybe better diagrams too :)

ahem. files are NOT uploaded to an offsite directory in this particular forum if thats what you think you meant. they are uplaoded locally

and there are hundreds more, mostly larger than an HTML file. so i think a few HTML files are not the greatest concern.
and those "free" servers out there have issues with "free" speech, particularly drug-related and mature topics.
as far as HTML files by users being a bad idea and a waste of space. allow me to draw your attention to the "Trip reports" section.
you help is welcome and your experienced appreciated. but as far as your takeover bid goes I really think there are some diplomacy issues you just dont get. :)
remember, design is one thing. Leading a committee is another matter. it has little to do with design and very much to do with respect for other peoples ideas.
come up with some fresh ideas for change and try again, try not to step on mine without submiting any of your own.

Actually, dynamically created sections of the site..... i.e. trip reports, grow/find, etc take up less space than HTML pages. Currently we are running low on disk space so any uploading that is done offsite is appreciated. We are looking into a better host but until the we have to conserve space.

oh goodie :) restrictions.
oh well. it can be worked around. lets see some ideas now. dont wait for somebody else to come up with them and then complain about it later :) im thinking perhaps we should start with that front page idea, just because its a good place to start and it should suggest a theme. i gotta go to work soon tho so i havent got time to write out new ideas tonight.
its really hard to be original with frontpages because they are simple and theyve been done alot. but that doesnt mean you cant try.
any graphic artists out there should submit pics (preferably off-site) ;) some sort of cool background or background idea. it could be in the form of an image or a blank page with just the background. we can get a few ideas together and have a little poll with one of those BB polls. this way we can decide on majority what looks the best. thats my 2 cents. i think it should work if anyones into it. ill start some sketches after work tomorrow, i have a few ideas, if anyone has an idea but is unable to create it, pass it along and I or someone else might be able to help make it a reality. teamwork is good for the community. government is good for the government.

The shroomery needs those ads, without them we would simply cease to exist...
I posted a paypal account for donations, we got a grand total of $30 US dollars from 2 very cool individuals.. So I'm curious should we rely on the goodwill of a tiny minority who care enough to help (which is far from enough to handle our bills) or should we have mushroom related ads to keep this place alive?
Its a simple answer for me, the Shroomery gets top billing, I don't see how a few ads makes this place any less important....
In a perfect world there would be no ads, and there would be no cost for running the shroomery... But we all no that is not the case....
As for the Shroomery and hosting...... We have to move the shroomery to a better server or get more space from our current one... 3D is doing some research into that as we speak, and I am waiting on what our Host is going to offer us in regards to more space... The thing is we can't be hosted under somebody else's name, the Shroomery hosts a bunch of websites and we can not rely on someone else to take care of our hosting...
The Shroomery must be under its own control, I know that sounds somewhat harsh but its in the very best interest for the community....

Well get me some details on what they offer... The shroomery needs a lot of space, we want to make some big changes here and for that we will need lots of space.. We won't even look at a package with less than 1 Gig space, in fact that is really not enough either...
Its also important for us to find out what our new host would want a month for each website we host, if thats expensive we won't be able to switch to them... We have a few important websites that rely on our hosting, we have to have them in mind when we make any decision.

first thing first, we need more colors. Sure all the blobs of text are there own different colors now, but how about making the different letters in the same piece of test different colors. Come on, more colors. Thats what this place needs.
