The Spore Print Mystery
    #3206875 - 10/02/04 01:37 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

First off, I know this should probably go in another forum but I need to share this with my fellow Mushroom Cultivators.

So last year I obtained a copy of Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World, by Paul Stamets. It's a great book and I read it for a few weeks, learning about different species and the like. After about a month of owning it (during which time I left it out as sort of a coffee table book) it disappeared. I was really pissed at the time (I thought it had been stolen, but I guess I was wrong) but I eventually forgot about it. This was about eight months ago.

Then about ten minutes ago I was looking through an old trunk of books and I guess what I find hidden between an old Bible and Psilocybin: A Magic Mushroom Grower's Guide? That's right, the book. But not only do I find the book, but I find a seemingly perfect PESA print between the first two pages that I have no memory of ever putting there. So now I'm happy to say the least, but I'm also confused. Very, very confused.

I really can't think of how it got in there (I only put books in there I get sick of reading), or how the mystery print found its way in there as well. But I'm just going to have to bite the bullet...and start some new jars tonight.

a ninja could do that, but it sounds more like pixies or gremlins, i always find seeds in cigarette pack cellophane and little notes like, " good shit, green, light, body buzz", hahahaha
good luck with that print

Well I have many possible explanations for this, though none strike me as being adequately rational.

Did you label the print? Your handwriting?

The print is labeled, but it's definitely not my handwriting.

I really can't think of where it could have come from...

Maybe the book place put it in there. It is about growing magic mushrooms so maybe they put a print in there so you could get started.

I wish bookstores did that. I'd buy books even more than I do now.

Well, what I mean is the company that created the book put it in there. You never know though. How else do you think it got there? You said it wasnt your handwriting and do you think your freinds would have put it there? Thats the only simi-logical thing I can think of.

No, I got what you meant the first time. That the company that published a book on identification of mushrooms inserted a spore print into my book that somehow didn't fall out during shipping, being on the shelves at the bookstore, or me reading it to have it turn up a year after I originally bought it.

That's not logical, that's fantastical. But I like it.

What I think happened is that I got the spore print awhile back, forgot about it and put it in the book for safekeeping. As to why I forgot it ever happened, misplaced the book for eight months and only discovered it now...

That's a different story all together.

First, someone took your book. Then they used it grow, afterwhich they felt bad and gave it back with an "apology" included.

Ok, except this isn't a book about growing mushrooms, it's an indentification guide on psilocybin mushrooms that grow throughout the world. Plus I don't have any friends that grow.

I'm a pothead (and last time I checked I was eight months ago as well) so I'm leaning towards that explanation (which has explained more than I care to tell you in the past).

I have travelled extensively throughout middle earth and wherever I go I leave prints in mushroom books. Some can tell what they are but most get thrown out.
