A psychedelic drawing (Morning Glory and DXM inspired)

I like it, but it looks like you slacked off severely on the top middle panel.

The rest is intricately "tiled" in a manner that I do enjoy, but the top has only a quickly scrawled pencil shading by the looks of it.

I don't mean to sound harsh, because I really do like it. But you gotta give your pieces the respect they deserve and put in effort until the end.

Groovy mate, is that on cardboard or something? Looks like it would be real active on psychadelics. Jaques has a point as well.

"The rest is intricately "tiled" in a manner that I do enjoy, but the top has only a quickly scrawled pencil shading by the looks of it."

The cloud was intended to be drawn that way. I was unhappy with a few aspects of this piece. I wanted it to communicate the experience of having your mind open up (dissolution of ego boundries or whatnot) but a dissolution of ego that was not quite complete. The cloud is there for several reasons. First, it's rain, right, so the idea was the cloud would have to come from rain. Second, and this idea was good in conception but failed in execution, I wanted to create something that abstractly resembles a temple. The original idea was to have columns of rain with liliputian distortions holding up the cloud. If you look carefully, you can see how this idea failed. There are columns that get shaded a different color behind the tiled rain, but it's not nearly as obvious as I would of liked. The only part of that temple idea that worked is the alter that the third eye pyramid is on. Part of the idea was that this cloud would have been the top of that.

I feel like there is a bunch of contrasts in this. Like the simplicity of the cloud contrasts with the complexity of the rain, and the grey of the cloud conflicts with the color of the inverted triangle, the motion of the other stuff contrasts the staticness of the cloud, the way the openness of the rest contrasts with the closed off cloud. Something like all this contrast is complicated by the fact that the rain comes from the cloud. I dunno.

I agree that the execution of the idea didn't come off as well as I would of liked. But I'm not worried about getting my intention exactly right as I am about letting the pieces come out on there own. That tile was one of the first parts of the piece that was drawn. The contrasting nature of that and the rest was part of the conception of the piece.

This is only the fifth thing I have ever drawn in my life. I will put up the previous ones as soon as my bandwidth allows. But what interested me originally was using large blocks of color with varying shading. Maybe see ing the evolution of my technique would explain the motivation of making the cloud so. If I am guilty of anything it would be bad judgement not laziness.

Ohh it was on plain white computer paper, BTW. I got good drawing paper now though.

Not a combo. More like the experiences on the seperate substances influenced the type of thing I was trying to do.

Another piece of instructive criticism:

Try not to take instructive criticism on your piece personally.
