Paxil

I went to the doctor today to talk to him about my anxiety problem and he prescribed me 20mg paxil once a day. Does anyone else take this? does it help with your social anxiety? also what are some of the side effects you have noticed from taking this drug.

I've taken that stuff it doesn't help worth shit. It makes you tired all the time and actually can make you depressed.

I don't think Paxil would be the best choice for anxiety.... All I know about it is that it makes you put on weight.

well thats what i am stuck with for the next month, would would be a better drug? does anyone have anything good to say about paxil?

My friend said it helped his social anxiety a lot and liked it very much. He was on a horses dose after a while and got addicted to it. When he didn't take it he would shake and shit, it was kind of scary. He finally went off it but the withdrawal was hell for a couple weeks.

Yes, I was on Paxil for almost a year when I was about 16 for anxiety disorders.

It made me sleep. And sleep. And sleep.

I don't remember most of my sophomore year because I was sleeping all the time. Not even my mother screaming at me to get up for school could get me to wake up because I just felt so tired. I just kept sleeping and sleeping.

And no, I am NOT exaggerating.

I was happy to get off of it, to say the least.

Your results might be better though.

I took 60 mg for about 3 years... which is actually over the limit of what they usually prescribe. It worked for awhile. When I decided to stop taking my meds, I didn't consult my doctor first. Bad mistake. DO NOT TRY TO GO OFF PAXIL ON YOUR OWN. I got so unbelievably sick. For a week, I was shitting my pants, barfing everywhere, couldn't walk, couldn't articulate my thoughts, and had an extremely high fever. Let your doctor know if you decide to go off of it.

Also, when I started taking Paxil, I noticed that I also started shaking my leg all the time. Even when I'm not nervous. It's just a subconscious thing. But I never stopped. It's weird, but I know it's because of the Paxil.

Doctors most always start you off on Paxil for anxiety then adujust to dosage or try new medications there after if it doesn't work. Paxil has worked wonders for many people, but for many others is has helped very little. I think it's like effective in like 3 of every 5 people. Just give it a try and if nothing seems to be improving then go back to your doctor so you can discuss other options.

One thing for sure is it will make you very sleepy for the first two weeks. After your body adjusts to the medication, the sleepiness will deminish. I suggest that you take a pill right before you go to bed each night and then you won't have to deal with being tired.

Paxil works good for anxiety in most people. But it is also well known for greater side effects than most other antidepressants. Hopefully you won't get too many. Try it out, and don't let other people's opinions decide your own. Maybe it'll help. I'm just saying give it a try.

My mom was on paxil for depression a few years ago and it turned out to be more a problem than a help. It didn't do shit for her and when she tried to get off of it she got ten times more depressed, was always dizzy, her vision was blurred, and she got very sick. I tried to look up some stuff on paxil withdrawl and when i typed it in, a whole shitload of law suits came up from people whose family members committed suicide on the drug or withdrawing from it. I know it works well for some people, but still, my advice would be to stay away from it and try and find something else that will work for you.

I also had shitty withdrawls from Paxil. But I was on other meds at the time so it really could have been anything.

thanks for all the input, i fell a lot better now about taking it. I took my first pill about 4 hours ago. I fell a little strange but nothing major. Hopefully it will start to work in a few weeks.

my doctor said they dont perscribe it to people under 18 anymore, but that may be just him.

I had social anxiety. Paxil was the first thing my doc tried on me, too, but I only ever took one pill. It wasn't pleasant to me at all, so he switched me to something else.

Everyone is different though.

It really pisses me off that with how high the medical and pharmaceutical industries get paid, that they haven't developed a neural-biochemical test that can tell you EXACTLY what the nature of a mental imbalance is.... Instead, they just say "Try this one, and see what happens..." Money really seems to pacify the consciences and morals of the highly "scientific" medical field.... GGggrrrrr..... I don't think this is acceptable in any sense of the form.... When they do actually "discover" the right medicine for a person, it seems it can do miracles, but the way they use "trial and error" in determining the right medicine for you really pisses me off.... Oh well, just my thoughts, sorry for ranting....!!
