meditation recom

hello. could anyone help me on recommending me a book about meditation. I want to learn it by reading. I am especially interested in chakra.

you might go for autobiography of a yogi by paramahamsa yogananda, but then the self realization fellowship will try to collect some money from you for reading further.
still it is a good book.
on the buddhist side, there is a bit of resistance to giving chakra kinds of meditation in writing.
the heart of buddhist meditation by naponika thera is pretty good, a little bit of chakkra is there.
Evans wentz has lots of chakra but little instruction
Tibetan yoga and secret doctrines will get you in but will not hold your hand.

why do you need chakra style meditation?

(just noticed you are in toronto - there is a dharma center in toronto and a good retreat up north, lots of ernest chakra style meditators in that group.)

part of that kind of game is charging $$ for something that nobody else is charging anything for.

part of this game is finding something of value that costs nothing.

I think its a mistake to insist that people are only allowed to make money for doing bad things (exploiting the environment, being a lawyer, selling products ofr 100x what you payed the product's maker etc) and not good things (helping people find enlightenment)

what about the poor people who seek enlightenment? those who cant give sessions bunch of money? or who cant travel to the east where if he is lucky, can find a sadhu to learn experience from him.
I dont necesseraly think materialism should have anything to do with this. just what you happen to get when materialist culture is mixed with spirituality.

I recommend "Turning the Mind into an Ally." It's one of few books on meditation that I've read, but it was easy and thorough.
