Whenever my husband and I eat shrooms, our dog seems to be way more spastic than usual. Sometimes he'll just sit there staring at us and tilting his head side to side while giving us this look like "are you guys ok? Are you sure?" It's the cutest thing. The first time we tripped around him, we were convinced that he had somehow gotten ahold of a shroom or something and was tripping too. But now we know that he always acts like that when we trip.

Host: I've heard whispers about the financial support your government receives from the drug industry.
Peruvian: Well, the irony of this, of course, is that this money, which is in the billions, is coming from your country. You see, you are the major purchaser of our national product, which is of course cocaine.
Host: On one hand, you're saying the United States government is spending millions of dollars to eliminate the flow of drugs onto our streets. At the same time, we are doing business with the very same goverment that is flooding our streets with cocaine.
Peruvian: Mmm-hmm, si, si. Let me show you a few other characters that are involved in this tragic comedy.

My cat always acts differently when I am dancing with fungi...! I thought it was just me, but my cat becomes VERY curious and cautious around me.... I do KNOW that he acts differently, and it is not just my perception of him.... He always tries to stay close to me, even though he is an otherwise independent friend.... One thing I do notice consistantly is that his eyes are always dialated like on alert of some sort.... I wonder if our bodies put off a smell that only animals can detect when we are tripping...??!? They have a much better smell of sences than we do....

I do know that in this state of deep appreciation for everything, it is almost a beautiful thing to pet and play with my cat - and is one of my favorite past times while in the other world...! Not that I don't appreciate it normally, but it is different when tripping....

GREAT POST....! I always wondered about this....!!!

Yeah, I remember reading once that dogs can smell fear. If a dog starts growling at you and you become scared, you begin to sweat and let off some type of chemical/smell. The dog can smell this, and it only encourages the dog to become more aggressive, knowing that you're afraid.

I assume the same can be said for tripping on mushrooms. To the degree that your body/mind changes while under the mushrooms, I'm sure some type of chemical is released.

If my cat was smelling me I would have easily picked up on it. She makes a distinct up and down nostril movement and perks her head forward at whatevers shes smelling, even if your 10 feet away she'll do the same movement as if she was smelling a a cricket half a centimeter from her nose.

After reading so many responses to their animals doing the same thing. My "spirit" theory could be retracted . But hey I said it was theory right?.

OK, so I'm not alone. Get this, there have been quite a few times my wife and I would trip to some Dark Side of The Moon. We would both lay on the couch, turn the lights off and the music on. We are peaking and I hear rumbling and meowing. My cat is meowing running around throughout the house. I open my eyes to find him on top of the speaker while Floyd is playing. He has done this EVERY time we have tripped to Floyd. We had some friends over once, we are all tripping and he does the same thing, freaks the fuck out. It's insane, I tell you, there really is something about cats, that I would like to know. There is something mysterious about them.

A lot of times everyother night or so my cat will be in the kitchen and his pupils will get HUGE. He gets in a pounce type position, with his tail swaying back and forth, then lets out a huge meow and starts playing with something on the floor that is not even there. He then makes his way to the wall and stares up the wall all the way up to the ceiling. He is meowing as loud as he can staring up at the wall/ceiling at absoultely nothing.

Here is the culprit.

one time i came home way high on acid, and visually i was seeing shapes and colors kind of circling around the cat, who immeditaly began hissing and arching its back, then it ran around in circles screeching and swatting and the spirally twinkly colors surrounding him for a minute and ran away. hehehehehe, the other cat didn't seem to mind that much, i was later told he was used to it.

DHJH, your cat looks real close to mine, and he also lays spread eagle like that on the floor...! I thought mine was the only one that acted like a dog...! LoL

For some reason, when on shroomz and appreciating my cat, an image always pops into my head from my childhood.... Maybe it is from a movie or book or something...? It is a image of an old "mad-scientist" type with long white hair & beard in a robe with moons and stars on it.... He is on the edge of a cliff looking at the stars thru a telescope with his friendly kitty cat sitting next to him....

It is funny as hell when my cat gets a case of the rips when I am tripping (or any other time...) Runnin thru the house like a crazy cat, stopping on a dime, laying on the ground for a moment, tail flick.... And then ZOOOOOOOM, off he goes to another spot on the other side of the house.... The ZOOOOOOOM, back to the other side....! The full moon seems to influence this a bit....

Cats are the bomb! Haven't they had mystical qualities attributed to them by the early Egyptians?

George Carlin says: "Cats always seem to be trying out a new set of eyes." Always thought that was hilariously true.

my dog was scared of my sister when she was trippin one time...she(the dog) wouldn't leave my side at first but eventually went over to her...hesitantly(sp?)

dogs can sense when ppl with seizures are going to have them before they happen so it wouldn't surprise me if they can smell a chemical difference when your trippin as well

i know this is off topic, but it supports the argument that animals exist on a completely different level than humans. if dogs can smell cancer, why wouldnt they be able to tell when youre tripping?

Now, I have heard of the dogs smelling cancer issue come up a few years ago....  It was a woman that had a mole on her leg that unknowing to her had become cancerous....  The dog started barking at her leg, and actually started nipping at the mole....  After a month of this odd behavior by the dog, she went to the doctors for a check-up, and showed the doctor her mole, had it tested, and it was cancerous....!  It was a show about pets saving people's lives, and very interesting at that....  Pets are wonderful friends, and maybe little gaurdian angels for some...!

My dog didn't want anything to do with me and my friend when we were tripping hard a few weeks ago. He went into another room and avoided us all together almost like we were strangers and he feared us. Once the peak had passed and I was able to ambulate I tried to calm him down. I petted him a bit, played with a few of his toys, and gave him a milk bone. He seemed to come around, after that, and would not leave my side for the rest of the night. It was very strange to see. I wonder if there is more to it than just the smell. I think dogs might see the dilated pupils and freak out on that, or maybe they are just so in tune with their owners, that they sense the differences in body language and behavior deviating from the norm and regard it as alien and may fear it at first until they realize that you are not a threat. But then I am no animal psychologist.
