No, no, she can't take your mind and leave
I know it's just another trick she's got up her sleeve
I can't believe that she really wants you to die
After all, it's more than enough to pay for your lie

Chorus
Wait a minute, watch what you're doing with your time
All the endless ruins of the past must stay behind, yeah

Well, can't you see that you're killing each other's soul
You're both out in the streets and you got no place to go
Your constant battles are getting to be a bore
So go somewhere else and continue your cream puff war

I don't see how one could think the GD lacked energy unless you hearing some studio recordings or one of the hundreds of lack luster shows. Any 60's or 70's would have plenty.

You're welcome to link me to any live tracks that would change my mind.

Jerry was very embarressed about that song also and refused to play it after the first few performances.

I can't find any that I've listened to and know are good available online, I am struggling with a dial up here and can't check into these but maybe this one http://web1.nugs.net/attics/680214_mp3.asp?artist=1&show=262&cmd=shows check out set two.

I haven't listened to the Dead on my own in nearly a month. I've been listening to a lot of Shpongle, Pink Floyd, Primus, various classical pieces, SRV, various bluegrass, I think I'm actually sick of the Grateful Dead, whoa, did I just say that out loud?

WTF!! You miss the whole Dead philosophy. There stance was joy spread through music. They did more for the world then anyone else from the 60's counterculture.
There wern't into laying political bullshit on people.
If others want to do that thats fine and their right, but the Dead did what they did for a reason and it worked beautifully.

Quote:
They should have vocalized their beliefs and intentions.

They did by playing music night after night for 30 years.
It's called love ,and they spread it from sea to shining sea.

Quote:
I think that the reason most new Deadheads are directionless druggies who sell hits for $10 each is due to The Dead not vocalizing their philosophy.

So if they would have protested the war acid would be cheaper?
I'm not following you at all.

For some insight into the Deads "philosophy" listen to their music.

I would also suggest you read "Coversations with the Dead" by David Gans and/or all the Rolling Stone Jerry interviews(theres a book) and you can get a idea as to why the Dead did what they did the way they did.

The messages are blatently clear through their music.

Do you even like the Dead Learyfan? I'm not saying your any less of a person if you don't, it's just you seem to miss some of the main philosophys of the Dead.
One of the main ones was not to tell people what to do or think.
They spread love and joy and that in itself was enough to create a value system in their culture unlike no other.

Don't lend your hand to wave no flag or talk no ship of fools

I LOVE that song...Yes rocks.

I think that particular chorus goes:

There's a time...
And the time is now and it's right for me
It's right for me
And the time is now.

There's a word
And the word is love and it's right for me
It's right for me
And the word is love.

My husband tears up everytime he hears it.

some bands are all about politics and some just live the life and send their message
the Grateful Dead brought folks together like no other band I know of... they weren't preachers though... thats how so many folks of different backrounds and lifestyles could be in the same room tripping and the vibe generally of love and acceptance ... bikers and hippies and preppies and kooks of all shapes and sizes...

maybe String Cheese can pull that off in the 2000 's ?

hmm... i think to me, the Dead's philosophy lives in that great tale straight out of folklore...

"don't murder me... i beg of you, don't murder me! please, please, don't murder me."

I personally love spearhead....I don't think there's anything at all wrong with political music. Some of the greatest music of all time was political music.....think woody guthrie, think MC5, think early Bob Dylan (though he wasn't as blunt), think country joe mcdonald....think folk music in general. I mean every political shift and changes has either been effected by music, or effected music, or both. I love that the dead never took a political stance....but there's nothing wrong with being political.

Somewhat of a tangent, but I think everyone who likes country joe should be aware that he once stood Janis Joplin up for a date....
