I want to do a comparison with you other shroomerites with regards to cost of living, using various products. would be a good idea to check things out
everything is getting uber expensive here (and I'm sure it's not jsut here), and the jobs here aren't keeping up. come visit, as that is the cool thinng about cali. other than that, trying to live here is akin to stabbing yourself in the shin.
here are some averages I took:
one bedroom apt: $1000-1500
two bedroom apt: $1300-2500
homes (3 bed 2 bath): $330,000-$700,000+
gas : $2.15 (for regular)
a gallon of milk: $4.50
pack of newports (no I don't smoke them): $5.25
smog check: $80 for the check, and if it doesn't pass, another $80 to run the test again
bridge toll: $4 per pass
lost liscense: $20
electricity (for the avg household during summer): $270-400
water (summer): 85
garbage: 35
movie ticket: 10
pack of gum: 1.15
-------------------- Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I'm in a major midwest city and I pay $450 with heat included for a one bedroom apartment. And I live in an expensive part of town. I could easily pay much less if I chose not to live in such a prime location Gas is around $1.90. A gallon of milk should cost around $3.00. Lost license for me was $7. A pack of camels costs no more than $4.

Move to utah, everything's relatively cheap here. There aren't any jobs unless you want to work at a call center. Utah isn't a bad place to live if you have a good job and don't mind the mormons.
My one bedroom apt is 396 a month. Its a little ghetto but I'm mostly at school so I don't care
Gallon a milk is 2.22
No tolls anywhere.
Movie ticket is 4-8 dollars depending how early you go.
Electricity $22

it's about the same over here.. only gas is about 2.05 for regular housing is rediculous.. 2 bedroom houses selling for 400,000.. mansions selling for 3 million.. I think this area is number 2 in the US as cost of living goes.. next to LA? EDIT: Do not move to southern California or the Washington DC (Northern Virginia, Maryland) area

damn thats expensive! here the gas, cigarettes, alcohol cost more. here is some prices from my area (Can $) 1 bed appt. 300-500 2 bed appt. 400-700 house 100k-millions..averages around 200k though. smokes 7+for 20 shorties. beer 6-20/6pack - mickeys 13-30ish electricity $0.08/kilowatt (1000 watts) movie in theatre 2-10 gas 0.85-1.09/litre...times that by 4 for a gallon. you yanks have CHEAP gas! even in cali. milk $4/4 litres (1 gal about) you pay to cross a bridge?!?! thats just fucked up, its all in taxes here. i think its good you guys have emisions there. even after being sued by GM and bushing helping them you kept your guidl. thats good. immagine of all the millions of cars you had down there werent regulated? yeesh. im pissed they got rid of ours, but then in canada we have a smaller population than cali alone so i guess its not as big a deal.

i love cali, personally i think its the best, i live in San Diego, and i think it is americas finiest city ever, it has like everything from the zoo, to the wild animal park, and sea world, it has the mountains and the dessert(or however u spell it) to the beach, and the beach has some nice waves. With no shortage of hot chicks just walking around in their bikinis near the beach, and there ne one can find ne thing here,ANYTHING, and disney land is about a couple hour drive from SD, as well as Six Flags, i heard those places are good places to trip out at, i havent done it yet. but been to disney land with friends with some coke, it was pretty kool. It is an experience to live in California, and its fuckin sick!!!!!!!

I've lived in California all my life (save when I travel), and though it can get quite expensive in desireable areas, there are also lesser expensive regions. Here's my take on your list:
one bedroom apt: $500-1500
two bedroom apt: $800-2500
homes (3 bed 2 bath): $200,000-$700,000+
gas : $2.05 (for regular)
a gallon of milk: $3.99 ($4.50 for two gallons)
smog check: $35 for the check, and if it doesn't pass, free retest until it does
bridge toll: No bridge tolls where I live (southern California)
electricity (for the avg household during summer): $270-400
water (summer): $85
garbage: $35
movie ticket: $8
pack of gum: $0.75 Those are along the prices that I pay for my chit down here. Wherever you were going to get your smog check done sounds ridiculous! $80 and then pay again for a retest?! Down here I grab $10 off coupons, get it done for $35, and get a free retest good for one month if I don't pass.

Leukoplast70 said: You got a good point, not only is it unbearably expensive but the laws here are pretty strict as well, like fireworks for example, only the gay cheap ground fireworks are sold here in SO-CO, and if you are caught with any type of drugs no matter the amount you can say goodbye to the outside world for a little while.
I don't believe the laws in California are too strict. Our liquor stores are open on Sunday, the fireworks issue is a bit of a bummer but much of California is flamable, and if you get caught with < 28 grams of pot you walk away with a $100 misdemeanor ticket.

in Dallas:
1 bedroom apt: $500-1000
Nice house: $150,000-$300,000
gas: $1.75
name brand cigs $3-$5
electricity: $200-$300 (avg house in the summer)
living in a cultural wasteland and breathing horribly polluted air: priceless
