In a nutshell: band signs with label, band records amazing album, label shelves album, band fight label long time, band breaks up. Four years have gone by and there is no hope left of this situation turning around. This work, which happens to be one of the five best albums in my collection, has been basically wiped off the face of the planet.

Except on the net. The band had mailed out bootleg copies to some lucky people (including me), and have mentioned several times that anyone who wants to hear it should look around for it on-line.

I'd never heard of Splashdown until today, and I'm really liking this album. Melissa Kaplan's voice reminds me a bit of Jasmine Rodgers' from Boa.
Track 5 (Mayan Pilot) is definitely a highlight for me.

You can download mp3's here.

Boston trio Splashdown's unreleased album Blueshift... Trip-hop, intelligent pop, truly innovative rock with masterful electronic influences, a fusiony style, a bit of sass, luscious female vocals -- there's something on this album for everyone, and it's a crime that it was not released. Melissa Kaplan's vocals soar, haunt, entice, and enfold. Kasson Crooker's programming is innovative and surprising. And Adam Buhler's strumming sets a perfect mood. There isn't an overall "sound" to this album. Many of the songs vary widely from each other, each revealing a different facet of what these three could create. Yet, the album works as a cohesive whole.

Let me know what you think.

The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

They've got a solid following up in Rochester where I grew up. Got to see them live once. It was like a double bill with them and Sarah Slean. Good shit.
