Maybe, but the attitudes of society would have to be so radically different for either side to take power that there really is no way of knowing.

Don't mean to sound like a homer, to throw in some sports terminology, but it would take a VERY good while for something like that to happen to the libertarian party, just by the nature of what the libertarian party is. IF, somehow, America woke up and realized the unfortunate state of our nation, especially in relation to what this country was supposed to be, the vigilance of the American populace would, for at least a few generations, be unprecedented. I remain convinced that if every American was presented the same case for libertarianism and against all but the most neccesary government that I was presented, at least a majority, if not a super majority, would see 'the light.' In fairness, a time would eventually come where power would have to corrupt...the attention span of people are short and eventually their stalwart resolve would fail and socialism/statism would once again begin it's creep. Perhaps before that happens though we could get a constitutional amendment making Thomas Jefferson's quote about refreshing the tree of liberty with the blood of patriots and tyrants supreme law. How does a revolution overthrowing the establishment every 20 years sound?

I respect the Greens immensely more than I respect(kind of a misstatement since I have absolutely ZERO respect for the complete clusterfucks that make up most of the two major parties) the GOP and the Democrats. However, the nature of the Green party, that is the continued advancement of socialist policies, would much sooner lead to the corruption that we see today. Such is the nature of the beast.

I would have to agree. I guess if there's to be any change in the political attitudes then it has to start with you and I. Politicians and the games they play are the fault of society being complacent. It's sort of like when your mom leaves you alone when you're a kid, what's the first thing you do? You do what you're not supposed to do.

It depends, the Greens would try to pass strict campaign financing and spending laws and possibly public financing which would be strictly opposed by the libertarians. if the greens were successful, then i think corporate ownership of the parties would be all but wiped out (England has very strict laws regarding spending and to my knowledge does not have the problems with corporations that we do).

We don't to the same extent. We have a fair bit of "cronyism", though - friends, ex-colleagues and donors of those in power tend to get nice posts in government bodies and honours.

Recently, Private Eye magazine predicted who would be given OBEs and got them nearly totally right.

An enormous part of WHY there is so much corporate influence in politics is because of the power that corporations can wield THROUGH politicians. Take away most of the power, you take away most of the reason to attempt to puppet-wield that power. The libertarian solution.

no matter how many or which parties there are..they will all eventually become corporate shills if the voters dont participate in the nominations process.. but i dont have a guess as to how long it will be...
