Did your system crash at any point or did you recieve any message saying that your system has "just recovered from a serious error"?


Because, I've had the same thing happen to me after a crash.

id run a hard drive disk check, a few bad blocks will do that to ya.

Try going to tools->folder options, then select the view tab, then select the show hidden files and folders radio button. Hit ok, and see if they show up or not. Probably not, but perhaps. (Don't forget to reopen the folder after making the changes.)

ok..

No my system didn't fail. We did have a power failure yesterday due to a storm, but that wasn't it.. the files and folders were all there when I got home from work. They didn't turn up missing until after I moved them.

I ran a hard disk check.. in safe mode.. took like 2 hours.. nothing..

And hidden files and folders are all already showing

I did a system restore.. but that didn't do anything either.

It's just very odd because there doesn't seem to be any method to the madness. I moved about 5 folders each having many folders of music inside them.. the 5 folders stayed intact but inside the folders there are missing bands, and some that are still there are missing random songs. I don't know where else they could have gone.. I highlighted them all and moved them in one move.. I didn't 'accidentally' put them somewhere else. And I ran a search on my entire hard drive withh hidden files and everything and it still couldn't find them.. yet the music folder I just moved them to is showing the same space used and number of files as it did before.. like they aren't even missing. It's very odd.

If I don't find the solution by the time I get home from work I'm going to try one of those recovery programs.

Would it help to mention in the new folder I sent the files, the folders look "greyed out" - like hidden files look like when you are showing them?

awesome.. I got a file recovery program and it worked like a charm.. found the missing files in ten seconds. Thanks Prisoner#1!
