I don't understand why they couldn't have just left it alone. Clearly they were ok with bending the rules for quite some time. I'm interested in knowing what caused them to crack down all of a sudden.

Like this is my exact IRL reaction. There's a small part of me that really enjoys the sensation, it's not every day that I'm honest-to-god bewildered.

This is an almost unilaterally foolish idea, and... I'm so tempted not to explain it. My absolute favorite response to this category of decision is popcorn and silence. Like hell yeah buddy, you dig that hole!

But I'm here because of this thread, and so is a significant portion of the NOTM roster, and so too are the unregistered noobs of the future.

Mushcult is a very specific vibe. It is filled increasingly, and perhaps to the dismay of some, with a particular flavor of character, and there seems to be a bit of a self-selecting loop. That is nice. It is the reason I come back to mushcult at all.

I can grow shrooms fucking anywhere. I can read and talk about growing shrooms fucking anywhere, and I can also go back to doing those things nowhere. You think I'm lurking QQQA and answering flyby threads at the cadence I do without confessional 50 pixels away? You are out of your fucking mind.

Confessional is top-of-funnel for much of the current and future population of mushcult, particularly the people who are active and high-output posters. Yes, it is a tiny fraction of total visitors. Because most people are coming here to read (and be confused by) a massive long tail of teks that continue to generate traffic and therefore revenue. But those teks are rotting. They need to be kept fresh.

Confessional is the garden for the weeders. It's the little pocket in the back of the building where the groundskeeper smokes a cigarette and makes it nice. Not the kind of nice the city inspector mandates with the ramps and the cameras and the safety railing. Actual nice. The kind that takes 3 years to start blooming.

But sure. Go steamroll that shit on a technicality. Piss on that guy.

Asinine.

To be clear, I fully understand why this decision is coherent, consistent, and fair from a technical, letter-of-the-law perspective.

It's legible, judicially. It just doesn't seem wise. Confessional gang maintains both the posting velocity and the vibe equivalent of surface conditions for noobs on the forum that generates all the traffic and that everyone comes to this website and spends money at. OTD maintains.. what, a legally mandated 300 yards from all schools and playgrounds?

I expect a meaningful dip to morale, and probably to mushcult post activity and noob retention. In exchange for... consistency? To appease... whom, exactly?

This seems like the dumbest kind of expensive.
