My pedros and bridgesiis have black areoles, is this mold growing on them? Any way to treat this? I think I need to get them in drier environment.

The tips from the twin spine I ordered about a year ago are doing pretty good. They seem to be growing a bit slow compared to the peruvian torch I got at HD years ago. That one ended up freezing and dying in Texas because I left it outside when winter hit. This twin spine is about 10x stronger though:grin:
12-14in gave me a really decent trip. Not too strong or too light.

@Sulfurshelfsean- It looks like a humidity issue to me, probably fungal. If you move it to a drier environment, those spots should turn into tan/grey colored scabs. The lower areole looks like it has puncture marks above and below it...just up and right from the middle, it also looks like there's maybe a root under the skin? I can't tell for sure.

@Trex- Nice color on those. My Jiimz twin spine has been slow too, but it also started as a smaller cutting like those. It usually takes longer for smaller ones to get a good root system going and take off.

coolio, thanks! Any suggestions on watering these (jims twin spine) in fall/winter? They just took root back in June actually. One is pretty solid, the other one is rooted, but a little loosely. Still firm enough to not need supports.

Finally cut one of my favorite plants, posted it here years ago when I first got a piece in the mail.

Should I give them low-light or no light during winter?

So Im to "resourceful" to but buy pre made stuff. So I got some high test rooting hormone and mixed it about 50/50 with sulfur. I have been using it for a few months not. At first I was amazed at the mass of roots that blew out!!
So for the fun if it it did two with the mix and two with out. Do you need rooting hormone? Absolutely not. Would I use it on stuff that I really wanted to root? For sure.

Modern grower says rooting hormone kills alkaloid production have you experienced this?

Rooting hormones are auxins. I tested ga3 and cytokinin and both caused near zero content after treatment with high levels. I do suspect auxins will also cause a change in content likely downwards. When using hormones we are forcing growth vs secondary metabolites. Also this is with high quantity/levels of hormones not low doses.

Ethylene did increase content and stress as well.

Noq don't get it wrong... the loss in alkaloid content isn't permanent and after hormone levels return to normal it'll produce alkaloids again.
