Stealth grow options * 2
    #29687554 -

Been a while since I was here ๐Ÿ˜…
Im child free finally and want to grow some fungi again ๐Ÿ™Œ

I have ordered some Golden Teacher syringes and AIO millet/coir bags.

Want to do this as stealth as possible in a closet.

Can I do it in a black tub with lid? Just opening the lid a couple times a day when fruiting starts.

How are people doing stealthy grows these days?

Cheers ๐Ÿ˜Š

I mean what/who are you hiding from? Most stealth growers are hiding from their parents but it sounds like that's not the deal here. Wife? Roommates? Do a normal shoebox and just put it in a cardboard box IMO.

Yeah if you need stealth, Ive grown in a solid black tup with a yellow lid

I modified it into a ez dial tub, no need to fan or mist if you're growing cubes but i also have one that i turned into an automated tub for exotics

Yea sweet! So for the ez dialed tub tek, you obviously had a black tub, but just drilled holes for some air exchange yeah?

Yep, super simple,  and i just checked to see how everything was going every few days or so by cracking the lid and taking a peek for a few seconds

I think the best stealth grow is to not hide them at all but grow them out in the open. But grow them along side other mushrooms, like sporeless oysters, lion's mane, button, or chestnut mushrooms, or anything else you like to eat. If you like houseplants, grow them too.

If visitors ask what's in the bags you just say mushrooms. They'll think you are on a health kick. If they ask if you are growing magic mushrooms hehe, laugh along and say, haha yeah right. That is usually the end of it. If they are still overly nosy later on, cook them up a lunch of fresh oysters.

I think growing stones (or something with active myc) would be the stealthiest way. Make tea and reduce to flakes ala ReverendMyc's Active Instant Tea.

Yes of course, bluescreen. Stones/Sclerotia are the stealthiest. Plus they are easier than cubes, just set and forget.

He does have GT spore syringe on the way. But it will be easy to order P mexicana A and some RGS too.

I've been meaning to grow some stones (haha), just hoping for someone to do an international ATL7 spore giveaway. :bow2:

But it's definitely exciting seeing grains turn white and then seeing that turn into fruits, which I guess OP really wants to do.

Qwobbler, you could also do some in-vitro fruited jars, which would work even if you don't have a PC and do it all PFtek style. Small easy to hide, and with a few jars you'd get plenty of mush to trip out on.

I don't know if your syringes are spores or LC, but either way you'll have a higher chance of success with PFtek (always best to check LC on agar, or maybe you are up for doing agar?). You could do a side-by-side with your AIO bags and see which wins.

I used to grow in a little cabinet i had.  Had it sealed with weather strip so you couldnt see light shining out etc.  shit i pulled a lot of tubs from that.

I see you've gotten a lot of good suggestions. And intend to grow cubes, maybe you're thinking sclerotia forming species too by now.

My 2C: if you make several woodlover patches in a local park, garden, forest, flowerpot or whatever, you don't have anything to worry about and just fill that dehydrator a couple of times when autumn comes.

Even when you're in the brambles somewhere picking shrooms, you can just say 'Oh, I thought these were Marasmius. But I might have to look at them again when I'm at home. Giddaytouyou and don't let me waste your time'.

I've got a tall wooden cabinet you can lock with a key.

Plenty shelves and loads of room for shoeboxes.

Lighting wired in through the back, led bars stuck to the underside of each shelf, timers built into those.

I agree with this...

My landlord once found my AIO bag from back in the day when i started and he said What is this...shrooms; I said yeah, theyre mushrooms, he said they look like psychadelic shrooms, I said nah they're gourmet, im gonna put them on pizza...

And that was the end of that

Ive ordered a pop up sab.  Ffs. Didn't think id be coming back to agar ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿคฃ

I enjoy it. Just wanted it to be easier 10 years later lol and yea, I have a lot of neighbours and friends come through my home, so just wanna keep it to myself.

Ive got spore syringes on the way, not culture. And some millet and coir bags.

But after reading comments, ok, maybe im jumping the gun and thinking it's all gonna work buy just inoculating a bag ๐Ÿ˜…

This is interesting. I had no idea this stuff was possible ๐Ÿ˜…

But.. I understand stones, you need more to get an effect.. my gut hates big doses of fungi ๐Ÿ˜’ is there a good strain i should look for that i can consume in smaller amounts?

Squirting spores into a bag of substrate would have a very high failure rate if it works at all.

Do you have a pressure cooker?

If so that is great. You would need one to sterilize rye grain or rye grass seed if you want to grow sclerotia. That is easy peasy and discrete. Instead of cubensis syringes you would order P tampanensis or P  mexicana then inoculate and you are done. Just wait for stones to form.

bluescreen also recommended the PF-Tek, works for cubes and also for stones. A PC is preferred but you can get away without one.

This would be your best bet considering your unusual situation.

Good luck.
