Gymnopilus Luteus?
    #29686969 -

Habitat:
The cluster of 3 and single one were on an old fallen tree(probably maple, maybe oak) that was probably down a couple years near a river.

The other two were like 30 miles downstream on a maple that was starting to decay despite being alive.

Gills:

Stem:

Cap:

Spore print color:
rusty brown, see pics

Bruising:
I really wasn't paying too much attention and didn't bring any home to really check out since I was busy checking out hundreds of pounds of hen of the woods, but there might have been very slight bruising on at least the cluster of 3. I really didn't check the others after I picked one and got covered in rusty spores that I was trying to get off my hand.

Other information:

Both seemed to have a somewhat anise like smell, but the first/cluster of 3 seemed to only smell for like a few seconds after being picked. It was windy af, so might have just not been able to smell it well there.

👁️ 🌊 why you are empty.

Hunt for the habitat not the mushroom.

"Neat" was my exact reaction to stumbling across them in the 2 separate spots I went to for walks and to grab some edible stuff while they are growing while not even looking for those in one day.

Thanks for the confirmations!

I went back and grabbed one to check better for bruising, but not 100% sure it has blue bruising mixed with it's colors or some other color. Is there anything else they might be to compare to? Any "look-alikes" don't really seem to look like them besides maybe some other gymns that don't seem to really grow here, but am seeing that people seem to find Luteus in my county.

the anise smell is more common than bluing .
they don't usually bruise blue when damaged, they instead turn a rusty brown/red.
from what i have seen they don't turn blue from damage(bruising) but from dying prematurely, mostly when they are still pins but also on the cap of larger immature specimens

this 1 1/4 inch cap had not grown in 5 days and turned blue during that time with no sings of damage.

old bad pic

a close lookalike is Pholiota multifolia
which has more crowded gills , doesn't smell like anise and lacks blue abort pins

Thank you!

Here is a couple pics from today of one small one that was unintentionally fairly heavily damaged yesterday. I took the pics with a flash for light instead of outdoors, but can see they are no longer more on the yellow side.
