Hey guys, I was driving through the local State Park and saw this patch of orange shroom clusters around a tree. Any ideas on what they are?

Hope you guys enjoy the pics, I've never seen a patch of mushrooms like this before. Peace!

Very nice find, and great photos.
Those look like Jack O'Lanterns (Omphalotus olearius). They are very poisonous, causing severe gastric upset for up to two days.
One really cool thing about them - they glow in the dark (the gills, anyway)!
Happy mushrooming!

Wow ToxicMan, thanks for the ID! Tonight I will return with a flashlight and see if I can get any photos of them glowing. Peace.

to get a pic, you are going to need a verry long exposure.

You'll probably do best to bring some inside to photograph them. Outside, the moonlight will interefere with the photography.
Use film only about ISO 100. The slower films actually have lower reciprocity failure (something I learned in astrophotography). Go into a room like your bathroom and shut off the lights and wait for a few minutes. If you can see any light then you need to fix it. When you can't see any light at all, then set up your stuff. Don't bother with exposures over 5 or 10 minutes. Since it's an extended object, use the lowest f/ ratio you can get on your lens.
Good luck, and let us know if they come out.

I've been wanting to find that mushroom for a long time just so I could photograph it... Still can't find it
I think Mr M said he did an 8 hour exposure on his when he took pictures of them. Too bad my digital will only keep the shutter open for 15 seconds. I might be able to get something if I set the aperture at 2.3 and ISO at 1600. Otherwise I'll just use my 35mm SLR.

Actually, you'll get better results if you stop down a couple of stops -- almost all lenses get better pictures at an f-stop of 5.6 or so than they do wide open.
Use a tripod and a shutter release, if you can get your hands on them. I'd start at 15 secs and just keep doubling the exposure -- 30, 1 min, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and, if you're up for it, one hour. Once you've hit 32 minutes, of course, you're going to have real problems with ambient light. But it's worth trying anyway.
Of course, this is all predicated on you having a manual camera and some equipment to deal with it, or a rather expensive digital camera that can do the same things. %)
Also, you might try using black and white film in addition to color. Actually, that's what I'd choose for artistic value anyway, for the subject, but that's me. Go for a true black and white film, not a C-41 process film, if you can swing it -- Kodak T-max 100 or Plus-X 125.
Personally, I'd also try taking pictures outside in their natural habitat, even with the moon -- you might get some good results. Start at 10 secs and double, up to perhaps 10 minutes.

Yo dudes, I have a Kodak EasyShare LS443 digital camera. I think the longest I can make the lens stay open is 7 seconds.
I'm still gonna try and get some pics with it though, I've had some success with it in nighttime situations before. We'll see later tonight how they turn out. Peace.
