Beads evaporation and micropore tape scepticism

Hey,

My tub is in the phase of developing primordia, there are few pins on the sub as well. I haven't been misting the sub yet, because there are a lot of those natural big beads on the surface, and I wonder will they evaporate. There are 10 small holes around the tub in the level of the substrate and they are taped with micropore tape. I wonder how much air exchange the tape is preventing and should I remove it to speed up evaporation of the beads? I have also cracked the lid a bit, lid and walls are getting dry but big beads are sitting on the substrate almost statically from my pov. Sub tickness is 10cm.

Don't think about them evaporating. They just need to be there. If you start to get pooling, give them more air. If they start disappearing, restrict (and perhaps mist).

Micropore restricts but you can just tape over or partially tape over as needed with regular tape.

Should I care about moisture on the lid and the sides of the tub if my substrate surface has a lot of water beads?

Not unless it is pooling too much. This is why we use bin liners as well, helps eliminate potential over feeding of the substrate when the walls of the monotub start dripping onto the substrate.

If the beads of condensation on the lids get too big, open it up and shake the lid into a sink and then put the lid back on, this will help with any potential droplets that may oversoak the substrate.

Yeah, that makes sense. My walls and lid are dry and surface is almost pooling, so I have cracked the lid a little bit more, so I don't have to care about dry walls and dry lid (to mistify them or something) if beads are there on the sub, right?

Can anybody answer my question?  Do I have to care about dry walls and dry lid if I have a lot of beads on the substrate, and the substrate obviously is not dry?
Maybe dry walls and the dry lid are indicators of a dry microclimate/air above the substrate and maybe it can somehow affect mushrooms growing in a negative way?

My tub is constantly producing new mushrooms in waves. Is it all considered as the first flush and should I force somehow to move on to the second flush or just harvest until it stop?
Also, please tell me is the second flush only considered as fruiting after soaking or it can also happen without soaking the sub? :confused:

It will happen without soaking or cold shocking, but it is advisable to float it submerged in water for 12hrs or more. Try to harvest them all at once to give the substrate a refractory period and time to recover from the harvest. You can harvest the more mature ones on their own and wait for the rest of the flush if you want; just try to do as few harvests as possible.

You can also simply put some water in the bottom and then drain it using an empty tub of the same size to hold the substrate firmly and gently in place while you tilt it to drain the water out.

Tnx, I think I'm gonna harvest this wave and then clean the sub from pins and soak it for 12 hours. Mushrooms are really huge in this wave.

its random, can be from  conditions, genetics, or just top-heaviness. light plays a role but it's not  solely responsible. fruits are almost always somewhat larger in subsequent flushes.

We're creating an artificial environment, and also arbitrarily declaring boundaries between different "flushes." The organism, meanwhile, does whatever it wants. The whole concept of flushes has more to do with anticipation of harvests and what your :yields: will look like. If you get a really good pinset and a bunch of pins all successfully develop into fruit at once, then they'll pretty much take up all available growing space in the tub. That will create a canopy, which would pretty much represent the best-case scenario for a first flush. But again, these are all terms that humans have just made up to organize their work, and to describe the behavior of the organism in a completely artificial environment.

To kind of summarize the specific advice people have already given, it's best not to fuck with your moisture content too much unless your substrate is obviously drowning or drying out. It's really not something you need to geek out over. Pinning is largely determined by genetics and the cleanliness of your spawn.

It looks to me like some of the fruit in the last photo are flopping over because the bases are too skinny, likely due to a low-level bacterial infection of the substrate. Hard to say why they're all going sideways and doing corkscrew type stuff. Based on my own personal experiences, I'd probably just go ahead and pick those ASAP and rip them in half to inspect for any potential rot.

But fruits will do all sorts of wacky stuff for all sorts of reasons. They'll run out of headroom and snake around, follow light, follow fresh air flow, etc. Different genetics do different things. Yet another thing that it's best not to overthink.

Thanks. I understand now, it's not my fault, it can be all sorts of things, each mushroom have it's own 'brain', 'free will' and 'insticts' :grin:
I'm going to harvest them and start soaking the sub for the next flush, I see that they got wrinkled for some reason as well,  their caps got also pointed a bit , those are some kind of abortion signs I guess, so yeah. :smile:

Shrooms opened aggressively all of a sunnden, probably because temperature outside went down although temp in my room is the same.


Problem is that it dropped spores, is it game over or bext flush could be still valuable?

It'll be fine man, the time from the veil breaking to fully open is only a couple hours sometimes. The spores shouldn't hurt anything, other than looking unsightly. You are very unsure of yourself, but you seem to be doing everything right!
