It's important to have this information for people who have certain risk factors. But, these are rare cases. I'd like to see the risks compared to that of SSRI drugs. Occasional use of serotonin agonists (since mushrooms are usually used occasionally or in low doses) versus everyday use of a drug that essentially slows down your body's ability to clear out serotonin or process it correctly.

Some of these aren't surprising.

Dude who ruined his blood vessels and heart with cocaine ends up dead from a heart with severe inflammation, combined with the vasoconstriction from psilocybin and it's no surprise that someone can die from underlying condition

Yes a vasodilator and meds that control blood pressure would help with hypertension significantly. Anything to open up the blood vessels and decrease the pressure and reducing the resistance your heart has to work to forcefully pump blood.

Hypertension is only really dangerous when it becomes severe, we're talking like 180/120+ and to be frank to get this high you'd have to have some kind of underlying cardiovascular issue to begin with or an absolute insane amount of drugs

Anyone documented with known hypertension issues should be very mindful when taking drugs, mild hypertension isn't much of concern if you don't have underlying issues.

One of the biggest causes of concerns with severe hypertension is the lack of bloodflow/oxygen. Severe hypertension damages the blood vessels and the kidneys are especially susceptible because they have very tiny blood vessels. When they get damaged, you will have issues getting oxygen and removing waste and end up with AKI and potentially die.

A lot of these cases the underlying issue is hypertension. You can say psilocybin caused them to have issues but it's very likely they'd end up in the same situation if they took another vasoconstriction drug.

Could have been alcohol, nicotine, LSD, or various other drugs that are vasoconstriction inducing

For those of you who are young and have not yet been in a situation in which high or low blood pressure is a daily matter, here is a link to a graphic explaining the stages of blood pressure.


As you age blood pressure is likely to become more worthy of focus. It is wise to have a blood pressure monitor at home, although a lot models appear to give un-reliable readings.
