OK, so I think I have a problem. The lids I used on my quart jars had a coating on the inside of them which peeled off into the lye/bark/naptha solution! Does anyone think I should trash the whole thing and start again? Will that skin dissolve into the naptha/DMT solution and get into the DMT? The coating was floating in the solution and I pulled it put, but I'm thinking it dissolved in it.:confused::eek:

Pull it as usual, but instead of evaping /freezing the naphtha, mix it with some water and white vinegar. This will salt out the dmt into dmt-acetate which dissolves into the water/vinegar solution.
The coating does not dissolve into water, as it is non water soluble.

Then discard the upper naphtha layer and keep the water/vinegar solution. This contains your dmt.

Then again base this solution with lye and pull again with naphtha. A complete new extraction so to say, or a clean-up step to get really white crystals. This way you get 100% rid of the coating.

So it's possible the coating dissolved in the naptha? I have plenty of bark to waste 100 grams and the lid is clean of the coating so I can start another one. I don't mind the loss at all if it's safer. I'd rather stick to the STB simple tek and no extra steps and I like the yellow D.

I don't know how soluble the coating is in naphta. But I had acetone fumes dissolve some coating of a jar once. :shrug:

Like the outside of a jar coating? I'm seeing small pieces of it floating in there still under the naptha layer and on top of the lye/bark so I'm sure it's ok. I'll do a small test when I'm done to see about taste and feel. If it's bad at all, I'll start again. I have a lid with no plastic layer now.:grin:

My lid had a coating on the inner surface, some kind of grip, to help closing it airtight.

After a day or two the acetone inside the jar did melt away the coating, without even touching it, leaving a lid that did no longer fit tight.

Ahhh, acetone might be different on that particular coating.:shrug: I still see pieces of it and I'm confident it's not dissolving into the naptha now.

same thing happened to me but i followed the tek to a t (i used vm&p naphta) i noticed on my 2nd or 3rd pull the white film on the inside of my lid was melted, i wiped it down, didn't see anything floating around but i think i should keep on using the same lid.

sorry to bump this guy but it's a good thread, i read all first 53 pages.

I have just received 500g mimosa extract, I based 50g with 250  water containing 50g Sodium Hydroxide.
I added 50ml dichloramethane, bubbled over a little so transferred to larger flask.
Added another 30ml dichloramethane.
In first flask there was some extract left, washed out with another 50ml distilled water.
I stirred for 30 min, the mix was emulsified.
I add 2 g formic acid and stirred again for 5 min.
I proceed to add another 20ml dichloramethane
Swirl the bottle
Then add 150ml -20 methanol and swirl
Then add 50ml -20 Acetone and swirl
The mixture is now sitting in 2 X 250ml separating funnels, it will sit for 12 hours to separate.
I will drain off the dichloramethane in the morning and put it covered in the freezer for up to 4 days depending on crystal formation.
Completely new Tek for me.
Never used the 100 to 1 Acasia confusa extract or the Mimosa extract from China.

As you can see starting to separate, I did try an unsuccessful chloroform extraction on 25g dried cubanis family.
Tried to copy a Tek posted on another from.
The research I read was that using dichloramethane one could get 3.69% extraction out of mimosa. I open to any advice or tips.
I like to try different teks or experimenting with other people's by changing chemicals, quite often with negative results!

Using safety gear and being careful is highly recommend. Eyes don't grow back.

You're not alone, freaks me out a little too.  As Northerner said, safety gear and be careful.  Glasses, gloves, adequate ventilation(I wear a respirator for that part personally). Keep vinegar nearby.  Slow and steady with the lye, little bit at a time, stir and dissolve.  Always powder to water, never water to powder.  Just follow the steps of the tek and you will be totally fine.  Better than fine bc you'll have deems.
