Brand: Pepus
Type: Chipirones rellenos en tinta, Stuffed baby squid in ink
Species: Loligo sp.
Location: Purchased from the Tinned Fish Market
Review: The squid is stuffed with rice, tomato and onion, the squid tube is quite thin and you dont get much of the squid. The squid flavour is low and the rice stuffing  is quite firm, slightly moist but enjoyable. The squid texture is also quite firm some bites being more tender than others. The sauce is sunflower oil and squid ink and it tastes quite savoury, the oil has sweetness and they pair well together. The overall flavour is quite good, not plain and there are many flavours working together.
Ingredients: Squid (Mollusc), sunflower oil, onion, rice, tomato, salt, ink (1%) and spices
Rating:  8.5 out of 10
Price: It cost $11.95 AUD
Comments: Its 115 grams net weight, product of Spain

I struggled writing the review for this one.

Brand: Nuri
Type: Mackerel Fillets in Olive Oil, Filetes de cavala em azeite
Species: Likely Scomber scombrus
Location: Purchased from the Tinned Fish Market
Rev iew: The mackerel is quite firm, there is a softness to it when you chew it, but its definitely on the firmer side. The mackerel is flaky, not overly, but it does flake apart. The olive oil is very mild but has a unique flavour to it which goes well with the mackerel. The mackerel flavour comes through nicely and is the star of the show. The fish is nicely salted, so it doesnt taste plain. A high quality tin.
Ingredients: Mackerel (72%), Olive oil 27%, Salt
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Price: It cost $11.95 AUD
Comments: Its 125 grams net weight, product of Portugal

Brand: Gueyu Mar
Type: Calamar de otro planeta (Calamari from another planet) Grilled Squid in Ink sauce, Calamares a la brasa en su tinta
Species: Loligo spp
Location: Purchased from Vera Wines
Rev iew:  The texture varies, but overall soft with a bit of chew to it, you know its squid. The chunks are quite varied in size and the larger chunks are chewier but not rubbery. The squid flavour is mild with a light smokiness from it being chargrilled. The ink sauce is smokey and sweet and tastes savoury, squid ink is hard to describe. The ink is not gluggy and is smooth and coats the squid nicely.
Ingredients: Squid (fish) (Loligo spp), ink sauce (squid ink, onion, pepper and smoked fish)
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Price: It cost $26 AUD
Comments: Its 172 grams net weight, product of Spain

The last of the expensive tins. I wont be getting imported tins for a while, so this is the last review from the shipments i got. Hope you enjoyed the reviews, might not post another review for a while.

I will, im taking a break from them though. Ive done 16 reviews in this thread, no one else has done a proper review using the format. So i hope you will be the first.

Yeah, Galaxian/Galaga font. Are you a gamer too? I am.

Looking forward to your review, they are not easy to do. Things to comment on are: texture, flavour of fish, flavour of oil/sauce, consistency of oil/sauce.

Yes,  I too play video games,  but no new stuff only the old consoles from the 80's and 90's  :yesnod:

Sorry I took so long to get back to you,  but I have been without internet for nearly a week now.

That being said,  I'm going to try and do that review for you within the next couple of days,  so stay tuned

Brand. Vigo

Type. Imported Calamar Colossal

Species. Colossal Squid?

Location. Walmart

Review. Nice, chewy chunks of delicious squid.  bathed in bath of sunflower oil, with just the right amount of salt. It's one of the better squids that I've tried and non GMO for the win

Ingredients. Squid,  Sunflower Oil and salt.

Rating. A solid 10 for me  :yesnod:

Price. A little over three US Dollars.

Comments. 113 grams,  Product of Spain.

Sorry It took so long and sorry I didn't take my own actual photos,  including photos of the actual squid. I actually ate the squid while my net was down and I failed to take any photos beforehand

I promise that I'll rectify this in my next review

Thanks for the review. It is Jumbo or Humboldt squid, scientific name Dosidicus gigas. If you get the tin again can you edit in the photos and remove the old ones, they are massive.

The Canned Company in Australia

https://www.thecannedcompany.com.au/

Is ordering Los Peperetes, 4 different tins, which is like the rolls royce of tinned fish. Amazing quality, i reviewed there octopus with a 10/10. If you sign up as a member you can get a notification for first buys. There ventresca tuna in jersey butter is apparently out of this world amazing. Its expensive though. Just thought id let anyone know in Australia, because it is rare to get Los Peperetes in Australia. God bless.

This is so funny. I recently found his content on YouTube and it’s so entertaining and engaging. Let us decant the tin! It’s got me wanting to go beyond sardines. 👍🏾 😂

Marcus is really good but i dont agree with all of his reviews. Tinned fish producers really like him, but sometimes he slips a ten when a 8.5 is right. I really enjoy his content and when he decants tins.

it sounds stupid i know, but what i was trying to say is he isnt giving honest reviews sometimes because he is biased towards certain companies.

Brand: Los Peperetes
Type: Cod Galician Style
Species: Gadus Morhua
Location: Purchased from an online store called The Canned Company
Review:  The texture is fantastic, it is firm, slighty soft, flaky and tender. The cod has a unique flavour to it, it tastes pleasant and is addicting. The flavour is of white fish, with something uniquely its own, no doubt of high quality cod. The Galician style sauce is savoury, its flavoured like a tomato sauce with subtle flavours running through out. It has small chunks of onion, tomato and capsicum throughout to add to the very savoury flavour of the tin.  The olive oil is high quality, and compliments the sauce well . It is very moorish, a bit odd at the first bite, but by the end of the tin you wish you had more. In a nutshell, high quality white fish in a savoury sauce. Not everyone might like cod, but if you do, its excellent.
Ingredients: Cod (fish) (FAO 27), olive oil, onion, pepper,  tomato, spices (cayenne), salt
Rating: 10 out of 10
Price: It cost $35.95 AUD
Comments: Its 120 grams net weight, product of Spain

Brand: Jose Gourmet
Type:  Stuffed squid in ink
Species: Loligo, Dosidicus spp
Location: Purchased from The Canned Company
Rev iew:  The oil is high quality and mixes with the squid ink, it is very smooth and has a slight sweetness to it. The calamari flavour comes through and is a very good texture, firm with some softness. The ink is savoury, smooth and not too salty and the flavour is not overpowering. The squid are stuffed with rice, onion and tomato, but the tomato and onion flavour dont really come through but the rice is beautiful, soft and moist. Excellent quality, but just needs a little more flavour to make it pop.
Ingredients: Squid  (Loligo spp, Dosidicus spp) (Molluscs) (63%), Sunflower vegetable oil (18%), Onion (8%), Tomato (4%), Salt (1.5%), ink (1%), Spices (pepper, clove, bay leaf)(0.5%)
Rating: 9.25 out of 10
Price: It cost $26.25 AUD
Comments: Its 115 grams net weight, product of Spain
