Caffeine from coffee vs other drinks
    #29592249 -

Does anyone else find caffeine from a coffee stronger or more effective than other drinks? A caffeinated pop for example gives me no real energy boost. The caffeine levels between a bottle of coke and a coffee are pretty close but the coffee wakes me up more. Is the maybe because of other things in the coffee? Does anyone else notice that?

Well what comes to mind first is just the sort of ritual of making a cup of coffee (if you make it yourself.)  You smell it, prepare it; and all in part of  this you are preparing for the sort of wake-me-up.

But in direct answer, I find Blooms to be really good (I think that's the name.) They have ginger, ginseng and green tea-extract, as well as Gaurana Seed plus the just basic caffeine.  So they do a lot for the metabolism.  As well as body in general.

Even from the coffee shop I find it, but I do see what you are saying!

coffee always woke me up more, even if the caffiene was less, like a small cup of coffee perked me up more then a large redbull

i dont drink any morning caffiene now, some mornings i wake up feeling great, paradoxically usually if i wake up early like between 3-6am, other times im a little grumpy for 30 minute to an hour, but then i feel great

Gave up on coffee a few weeks ago for the first time in who knows how long... it just gives me the jitters and makes my heart hurt these days. Can't say the same for Dr. Pepper or tea.

Cold brew coffee was more tolerable than drip/french press/Keurig.

Stimulants effect me strangely. I used to be able to do coke or amphetamines without problems, but coffee and ephedra can spiral into an anxiety/heart attack feeling.

I feel like I might be currently having the same issues with coffee...

I love coffee so much in the morning, but I'm starting to feel like it might be counterproductive.
I feel good initially, but then it just turns into tweaky-like jitters, and the inevitable crash from not having anymore UP.

Yeah the first 30 minutes or so are nice, but then the unwanted side effects kick in. The heahaches from quitting sucked... and I miss the morning coffee induced poops

Depending how rich it's brewed, I always figured a typical cup of coffee is around 100mg to 150mg, and I haven't looked at the label of a caffeinated soda in a while but off my head I thought those were more like 40mg to 80mg of caffeine. So general speaking I'd think a typical cup of coffee is going to have more caffeine than a bottle of coke. But yea, I also feel the spectrum of other compounds in coffee contribute to the energy/buzz it has.

I put around 5 tablespoons of grounds into my cup of coffee, not sure on the caffeine content but it's likely around 150mg to 200mg of caffeine. The energy drinks I get have 150mg to 200mg of caffeine but somewhat of a different "buzz"/effect compared to coffee, I find coffee has a more pronounced crash compared to the energy drinks I get. I find all caffeine containing plants/drinks (coffee, yerba mate, guayusa, black tea, etc) have somewhat of their own vibe/buzz going on, guayusa is one of my faves as far as the buzz goes.

I'm the opposite. It relaxes the fuck out of me. I'd drink really strong espresso and feel chill

I had to stop drinking it because I'd drink pots of it everyday for like 10 years. Now I only have 1 shot or 2 shots a day

It sucked getting off it. Had withdrawal and felt absolutely horrible. I was drinking a wild amount

I tend to over do things. I figured that out about myself and I try to limit myself with things now

Hell yeah, I put kimchi on everything and muh poos are quite pleasant also... just not the same "oh I gotta go NOW" that coffee provides.

Step up your evacuation game, chug some prune juice and eat a handful of prunes. That's been my thang for a while now. Really gets those intestines gurgling juuuuust right

- Caffeine content isn't consistent in coffee, even between bags of the same grounds. Without lot homogenization, lot traceability, lab results, and a very consistent brewing method, its almost impossible to estimate the caffeine in an 8 Oz cup of coffee.
- There are other alkaloid stimulants in coffee that enhance the effects of caffeine.
- Blood sugar is a huge component in caffeinated drinks and the course of the stimulant effects. Different coffee drinks and other caffeinated drinks vary wildly in sugar content, and coffee contains a large number of compounds that modify the way the body breaks down carbohydrates and responds to blood glucose levels.

I drink like 10 shots of espresso a day, usually from like 7 am to 5pm. The crash is real though, sometimes I can't help but nap. It's generally only like 20 minutes though.

I just made some decaf espresso.

Another thing that really helps is drinking Guinness beer. I'd take that over coffee anytime
