No Caffeine = Bad Mood?
    #2599126 - 04/24/04 11:32 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

I've been in a bad mood today, but I don't know why! Is is possible that I'm going through caffeine withdrawls? I usually drink 8-10 cups of caffeinated tea a night, but for the past two nights I haven't dranken any at all. Could this be causing my bad mood? Or am I just looking for a reason to justify being grouchy?

Scientifically speaking, I dont know, but maybe erowid's caffeine vault does

I personally get moody though. I drink a couple cups of coffee a day, and caffeinated soda at night usually. If I dont have a caffeine intake for a few hours I get really tired and grumpy.

You know, I just drank two mugs of my wonderful tea and now I feel almost euphoric. It could be placebo but man it feels so good to drink caffeinated tea again after so long without it.

I drink all kinds of Bigelow tea and sometimes I mix it with some ginseng to give me that extra boost. My favorite teas are Lemon Lift and Constant Comment. But really, I'll drink any flavor of tea as long as it has caffeine in it.

I have some really wonderful Jasmine and Oolong tea. I'll bring some over next time so you can try it out. Chinese teas have a much more fragrant aroma than American teas, although the flavor is a lot more delicate.

I dunno... but I've been eating healthier here the past week (meaning no pop, chocolate, fast food, etc) and today I was practically paralized by the worst headache and I was extremely grumpy and irratable. I took some exedrin migraine (which contains caffeine) and like as soon as that kicked in i was doing SO much better.

should I take one of those every morning until my body gets out of this 'shock'? I didn't think I drank that much pop, but looking back i realize I drank at least one pop a day. didn't think caffeine had that much effect on me.

One soda a day is definetely not enough to cause noticeable "caffeiene withdrawl" dude.

Yes you are having withdrawal. It doensn't take much of a habit to have an effect. Try cutting back one a day. Key is decide in advance. Kills the rationalitization.

Not how you feel after you cut back comepletely. Then if you have self restraint you can drink again in moderation.

There are 30 mgs per 7 oz. of instant tea (obviously this varies, but its probably somewhere around there.  Assuming your cups are as small as 7 oz, thats 280 mgs of caffeine a night.  Thats 3 cups of instant coffee, or a no-doz and a half.  I know how it is, being in college with papers, a girlfriend, job, half assed music career, etc, I can't stay away from caffeine for very long, though I'd like to.  Buy some herbal no-caffeine tea next time, put up with the moody/tiredness for a few days, and you'll feel great, almost like you're drinking a small amount of tea all day.  Everyone has energy peaks and valleys, I've come to realize that you can't fill the valleys with stimulants and not expect to crash eventually.

Some non-caffeine related energy tips I've heard...

- Do some light excercize after meals.  Sometimes I'll eat a good lunch after class, and want to go right to sleep.  I take a 1-2 hour nap and feel groggy for hours afterwards, unless I have caffeine.  Restaurants offer more food (more money) than you really need in a meal, especially at lunch.  I try to eat half my pasta, and bring the rest home, for example.  Nothing to do with diet or weight, I just don't like to be sapped of energy due to eating the huge amount of food they bring.  20 mins of light excercise, even walking, helps raise metabolism, blood starts pumping, endorphins flow, and by the time you are down from that little aerobic boost, your body has finished digesting your food and you're feeling awake.

Eat lots of 'whole foods.'  Despite how vegan/hippieish this sounds, I can't think of a less new-agey term for it.  In most cases, fresh, unprocessed food digests slowly, using a low level of your body's energy stores over a long period of time.  Processed foods, on the other hand, tend to be filled with starch or sugar, which is a very simple carbohydrate.  Your body commits a large amount of blood to the digestion of all that cheap crap, and you have a significant dip in energy.  This is the stuff, when combined with TV, fuels the archetype of the man on the couch with chips and beer  www.csee.umbc.edu/~htang1/simpsons-the-homer-simpson-sitting-4001443.jpg">  If you make pasta, make it mostly veggies grilled in a little olive oil, with a smaller amount of pasta.  Some of the whole grain shit they have is really good.  Salads, juice, etc. you get the idea.

Damn, I sound like one of those cheap supermarket self help books.  Writing while high is fun as hell :sun:  Anyways, hope this helps somebody  :stoned::laugh:
