Yeah that's gross.  Decent fees are like 0.25% or better. I second mick's suggestion, that for US users trying to onboard fiat into the crypto ecosystem, just sign up at Kraken, they have decent fees: https://www.kraken.com/features/fee-schedule#spot-crypto

MEXC.com rocks free market maker trades (when your ask is above or your bid is below the current spread), and like 0.05% taker trades (when you just blast a market order to buy or sell at whatever price the order book supports at the time)... but you won't be able to onboard fiat currency from a US bank account.

ZEC definitely the jewel of the day of the majors in crypto.

SOL, nasty rejection, like, damn, really gross.  Still a heartbreaker, clearly.  Too bad, so sad.  (still have some)

TAO, bought a bit just above $300... saw it this AM and considered, "well damn, maybe I should've bought more"... but also a lot of top heavy wicks going on with the daily candles.  I think this needs to tighten for another few days.  I don't think there's anything wrong with building a position here near the 200 (*cough* Mick :tongue2:), but it might take a few days to weeks to really get going again.

ZEC though, mmm, not bad.  I bought a bit when I sold my the bulk of my TAO winnings, and at least for the moment, upside vol looks ripe, the 8/21/50 MA's have all started to enter a flat/base mode, and we've just pushed above all of them.  That's what I like to see.

I like HYPE here for a lazy weekend trade.

Daily chart shows a healthy back-test of its 200dSMA after a 20% correction over the past couple of weeks.  Hourly chart showing some nice tightening over the past day and a half and it's just starting to curl up out of that short-term base.

Easy to define risk, either at the daily low, or the 200 day, which is coalescing upon the 50 day to boot.

ZEC with a very pretty bounce off of its coiled key MA complex (8+21+50).  Still firmly in its multi-month base, but the longer it holds this squeeze, the more fruitful its pop could be.  Suggest building some into this base, adding on a move above $260 and/or near the bottom of the range (~$242 if you can catch an active bounce there, or the low $200's otherwise).

As an off hand note, my attention has been pretty much laser focused on ZEC/TAO and to a lesser extent HYPE.

I don't necessarily think HYPE can do what SOL already does, that much better than SOL already does it.  Nevertheless, HYPE's DeFi perp vol is impressive, and given that it trades at less than 20% of SOL's market cap (and it keeps getting concentrated attention due to the Iran+oil situation), is reason enough for me to keep an eye on it.  I like the setup here.

ZEC and TAO are much more interesting to me, largely because they're both under $5B in market cap, which gives them considerable room to rise in my view.  But also because they hit two issues with clear force.

ZEC with its industry leading privacy features alongside apparent quantum compute threat resistance and limited supply, makes it an attractive (and improved) alternative to BTC's long proven thesis as a proof of work secured digital asset.  There is real risk of regulatory roadblock on account of how good their technology in fact is.  But that's also why it's such a great chain.  Privacy is huge to me, and I would suspect will only become a bigger deal as more of the aggregate population comes to recognize how easily we can be profiled by our big data brokers (corporations and government).

TAO's hyper-capitalistic structure, limited supply dynamics and PRODUCTIVE proof of work, using its network compute energy not only to secure but to support emerging real world businesses, is also an epic thesis.  That you can dive into the weeds and directly involve yourself with its subnets is a dynamic and attractive feature.  That so many big names across tech and crypto have voiced enthusiasm about its structure and accomplishments only serves to reinforce the potential of the platform's sustainability and growth.

Still like BTC/ETH/SOL, but man, they're expensive (and they're still volatile as all hell).  Happy to take on a little more risk for what would appear to be significantly more upside potential.

How do you compare Hype to Sol? Both serve a different purpose in my eyes. Sol being a general layer 1 Blockchain, while hype is exclusively a high volume decentralized perp exchange.

You're correct that SOL is geared toward general purpose whereas HYPE is highly targeted purpose... however, because DeFi is the dominant application for present day crypto networks, I think some relative comparisons can be made.  Blockchains are (at least presently) generally ranked in part by a handful of relevant metrics:
  • Number of active addresses
  • Total Value Locked (and in HYPE's case particularly: Trading Volume)
  • Transaction Throughput & Execution Latency

Plugging those metrics into an LLM for relativistic comparison - attached to this post and downloadable via the link above - we can see that there are in fact some meaningful differences.  Solana leads on nearly every metric except for aggregate perp desk volume.  Nevertheless, both appear to be highly performant networks that can effectively accomplish much of the same functionality with regard to trade/market execution.

SOL is bigger on users/addresses and TVL with a stronger general-purpose chain throughput profile.  HYPE is much bigger on perp volume specifically, with a stronger trading-engine for perp execution specifically.  Crazy that HYPE's HyperEVM (general-purpose smart-contract lane) which is more directly comparable to Solana, operates at a sluggish 2 (yes - TWO ) transactions/sec, while HyperCore (the native trading state machine for order-book finance) operates at 200,000tps.

That performance gap is apparently by design. Hyperliquid says the HyperEVM was launched with lower initial throughput intentionally, because HyperCore and HyperEVM share one state and the team viewed it as technically risky to let the EVM consume too much bandwidth at launch. Their dual-block architecture is meant to improve HyperEVM block speed and size over time, but today the docs are explicit that HyperEVM throughput is being rolled out more conservatively than the trading engine.

Another major difference between SOL and HYPE is on the decentralization front, where SOL has around 1,295 validators working to secure its network and HYPE is presently limited to the top 24 active validators by stake (both networks have a BFT validator framework).  SOL has often been faulted for lacking decentralization, but relative to HYPE it's orders of magnitude more diverse.

I asked ChatGPT 5.4 Extended Thinking to crunch on data to produce a Top 10 Bittensor (TAO) subnets report, using a weighted formula that appeals to my sensibilities; attempting to balance alpha token trade momentum with a basket of subnet operational-specific metrics.  It took over half an hour to build the report, attached here for your review.

TLDR: Targon (SN4) leads the pack, but there appear to be several that are worthy of consideration.  Keep in mind most of these subnets are at present day (circulating supply) valuations of ~$100M and below.  We've seen what crypto can do historically, and if any of these subnets gain real traction, they could produce an astronomical ROI.  Risk/reward is skewed high here, but the markets are still very thin, so be certain to manage your risk with position size.  You don't need a lot of skin in the game if these actually play out.  As noted before, you can own the parent network token (TAO) and also benefit from the hyper-capitalistic nature of the network and its constituent participants, but the subnets can theoretically provide a significantly higher return.

Crypto, never a dull moment.  One of the primary driver's of Bittensor's ecosystem development has dropped a bomb on 'em... causing the issue to trade from $341 at today's highs all the way down to $281.

Covenant (one of the leading subnet groups) is leaving Bittensor, and talkin' shit in the process...

REGARDING Covenant leaving TAO (courtesy of ChatGPT 5.2 Extended Thinking):

Quote:
Yes — that is a serious long-term headline. From the indexed snippets of Covenant’s post, they are not complaining about price action or a minor bug; they are arguing that “decentralized, permissionless AI training” is not actually a Bittensor feature in the way the market believes, and that the network’s permissionless story is contradicted by how it is governed. They go further and say they cannot responsibly raise capital, hire talent, or ask their community to commit resources on top of a foundation that “one person can undermine at will.” That is a direct attack on TAO’s core base-layer thesis.

The reason the market takes that seriously is that Covenant is not a random commentator. Covenant AI says it is building three interconnected Bittensor platforms: Templar for decentralized pre-training, Basilica for decentralized compute, and Grail for decentralized RL post-training. Its own research update says those systems were designed as a full training pipeline, and Templar’s Covenant-72B run was the marquee demonstration that permissionless, distributed training on Bittensor could work at meaningful scale.

In importance terms, Covenant was one of the most important builders in the whole ecosystem, and arguably the single most important one for the decentralized-training narrative. CoinGecko’s March 25 leaderboard had τemplar (SN3) as the largest subnet by market cap at about $134.9M, ahead of Chutes at $132.9M, and its writeup says Templar became “the face of the Bittensor ecosystem” after Covenant-72B. Taostats’ more current snapshot still has SN3 around $92.1M, which keeps it in the top tier. Market summaries also tie TAO’s March surge directly to Covenant-72B, and one report notes the Templar token itself jumped 194% in seven days around the milestone.

Why that mattered so much is that Covenant-72B was not just another subnet update. It was presented as a 72B-parameter model trained across 70+ distributed nodes, with performance roughly comparable to Llama 2 70B, and it became a major reason TAO nearly doubled in March. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang later referenced the achievement, which further amplified its credibility. In plain English: Covenant helped prove that Bittensor might be more than a tokenized emissions game; it might actually be viable decentralized AI infrastructure.

That said, Covenant’s accusation is still an allegation and interpretation, not something the public docs state in exactly that form. What the official Bittensor docs do show is that governance is still transitional: the protocol says it is moving from foundation centralization toward community ownership; in the first stage, a Triumvirate of Opentensor Foundation employees creates proposals, the Senate approves them, and a Triumvirate member must still close them for execution. The docs also say that before this governance model, admin actions required a single privileged sudo key. Separately, subnet-owner docs show owners or root can modify hyperparameters, some functions can be disabled by subnet owners, and Bittensor added rate limits partly to prevent owner abuse against validators. So Covenant’s complaint is directionally plausible, even though the exact “one person” framing is stronger than what the docs themselves spell out.

The closest comparable player is probably Chutes (SN64). By current size it looks larger than Templar — taostats shows roughly $132.5M market cap for Chutes versus about $92.1M for Templar — and Chutes has processed a cumulative 9.1 trillion tokens with daily peaks above 50 billion. That makes Chutes the stronger economic / usage story, while Covenant/Templar was the stronger proof-of-possibility / frontier-training story. If TAO’s narrative rotates away from “decentralized frontier pretraining” and toward “real inference demand and revenue,” Chutes likely becomes relatively more important.

Another major comparable is Targon (SN4). It was around $90M market cap in late March and is positioned around confidential compute rather than open pretraining: SimplyTao describes it as offering secure GPU rentals with Intel TDX, AMD SEV, and NVIDIA Confidential Computing, plus 1,000+ GPUs, sub-50ms latency, and 99% uptime. That makes Targon less central to TAO’s philosophical “permissionless frontier training” story than Covenant, but potentially more legible to enterprise users who care about privacy, attestation, and confidential workloads.

There are other substantial builders too. Macrocosmos’ own materials describe it as one of the largest companies on Bittensor, and it operates across multiple areas rather than hinging on a single symbolic subnet. So Bittensor is not a one-team ecosystem. But Covenant occupied a uniquely valuable slot: it was the team most associated with the claim that Bittensor could coordinate serious large-scale model training over the open internet.

The immediate knock-on effects are already visible inside Covenant’s own stack. CoinGecko shows basilica (SN39) down about 56.6% in 24h and 60.5% in 7d, with market cap around $10.2M, while grail (SN81) was down about 61.4% in 24h and 59.6% in 7d, with market cap around $12.0M. So the market is not only discounting TAO; it is repricing the whole Covenant complex.

The deeper long-term knock-on effect is a governance discount. Under dTAO, the market decides which subnets attract staking and therefore a larger share of daily TAO emissions; subnets with outflows lose that support. That means a governance scare is not merely reputational. If founders, capital, and users believe the base layer is not credibly neutral, that can directly reduce emissions, liquidity, and talent formation for the affected subnets. That is why Covenant’s capital-formation complaint matters so much.

There is also an institutional angle. A big part of TAO’s recent bull case was institutionalization: Grayscale’s Bittensor Trust is explicitly marketed as a regulated way to gain TAO exposure, and large-holder staking narratives such as Yuma’s stated 19% of total TAO supply helped reinforce confidence. If governance now looks more discretionary than rules-based, that does not make TAO uninvestable, but it does justify a lower multiple and tougher diligence from serious capital.

My bottom line: Covenant was probably the most important credibility engine for TAO’s decentralized-training story, even if it was not the only important builder in the ecosystem. Losing confidence from that team does not kill Bittensor outright because Chutes, Targon, Macrocosm, and others still matter. But it does damage the premium valuation that came from believing Bittensor was a credibly neutral base layer for frontier AI builders. If Opentensor responds with real governance hardening, this could eventually be constructive. If not, the market is likely to keep rotating away from the broad “TAO as decentralized frontier AI” story and toward narrower subnets with direct usage, revenue, or enterprise utility.

Damn, sorry man.  TAO is showing some attempt to repair its chart today, and the daily candle volume is absolutely huge.  Therefore, if it can close in the top 50% of its range, after its picture perfect tag of the 50 day SMA, it might be worth holding on to.  If it closes near the bottom, I'd probably cut it loose for the time being because it has some work to do.

The tech is good, but the Covenant news really did drop a bomb on the sentiment surrounding this issue, and when folks get their face ripped off like this, it often takes quite a bit of time to repair and rebuild.

Now for what looks like it IS still working...

HYPE appears to be off to the races.  SOL is right under an hourly trendline (a move above $86 today would be an appropriate buy trigger with a stop at the daily candle low).

ZEC still taking names and living above its 200 day MA for the second day after its face ripping rally off the 50 day.  BTC also looking constructive, pushing out of a little bull flag right above its 50.
