I thought that whole experiment ended...? I mean I guess the area's still there, but does the government still recognize it?

no sir it's certainly not ended... "pusher street" is closed, and the sale is a bit more hush hush, but the open smoking of joints is still on going, all the family still live there, and the shops/cafes/bars are all still open... bevar christiania!
