What if AI creates the greatest music in history? * 1

Think of whatever you think is the best song or songs of all time. What if pretty soon, AI learns the formula for creating what humans consider to be a great song and then creates the greatest music that humanity has ever known?

Many of us think that music will never be as good as it was from the 60s to the 90s or whatever, but what if we're on the precipice of the greatest era in music history because of AI?

What about the guy whose job it is to write songs? I dont think its a question of if it will happen, it totally will. So AI writes your favorite song and you play it at your wedding, is the world a better place? Some other song would have been your favorite song, even with no AI. 

I was going to write a book on cult movies, but I tested out AI when it came out by getting it to write a review of my favorite movie, and it did, and it was way batter than mine. I stopped working on the book that day. People are getting ai to create art and putting it in a frame and selling it at artist market, its really fucking with creative folks ability to feed themselves by selling their art.

Waiting for the first AI religion, it does everything better than us, maybe it make a better religion too

You're right. There's no such thing as a song that could generally be considered to be great by many people since "great" is a subjective term. Great point.

Okay, thank god someone understands what I'm saying. This is the problem that we're going to face. It's definitely going to suck for artists, but at the same time, AI art will probably be so good that you can't deny it. The movies, music, etc will be so good that we're going to have to admit that we love it. Just like people who were against hip hop at first because it "wasn't real music". Eventually they had to admit that it was great.

Another issue that will arise from that will be who owns that AI art. If I ask AI to make the greatest song ever, and it does, but someone uses that music in a commercial, am I owed money because I originally asked AI to create it? Or is it the people who made the AI program? Or is it public domain?

Yeah, in 5 years it's going to be unimaginably good. I've already heard it create a really, really good song (IMO). Someone just ran some lyrics through their program, it spit out a song and then they put it on YouTube. And that's just the beginning.

Listened to a bunch of AI Tupac songs. Some are pretty good and the voice is near perfect.

This technology will only get better in the coming years. I could see it going mainstream.

People often see music as objectively good or bad, but there’s more to it than just the mathematical structure of the song or the timbre of the instruments in it. Yes, AI can produce songs that sound convincingly human - impressive guitar playing, solid vocals, professional sound mix/mastering - but as soon as you realize it’s AI-generated, that magic fades.

Part of why Jimi Hendrix sounds so good isn't merely the end product - knowing there’s a person behind the music, a culture built around the music, and talent on display is a core component to the experience. When that human element disappears, the music loses much of its emotional impact, even if it's nearly identical in style and sound.

We’ve grown up associating certain sounds with genuine human skill, and that aspect adds to the feelings you get when you listen. Once the novelty of AI creating the music wears off, these tracks may come across as empty background noise rather than moving art. In time, listeners might (unconsciously) want proof that a song was created by a real person before giving it their attention, whether seeking out live performance/musicianship or wanting to know about the creation process behind it.

Still, AI can be an extremely useful tool for sampling, assisting composition, or changing the sound behind something human created. Additionally, processes using AI generation might have a human iterating over a song hundreds of times before getting something that sounds right to them, which blurs the lines a bit on where you draw the line between something being human created or AI generated.

You inspired me to try Suno.com, and as a non-professional musical enthusiast and armchair composer, I have to say I am pretty impressed.

With a fairly general prompt, this thing nailed a pretty sweet mood... the music backdrop is fairly simple and enjoyable, not exactly "psychedelic", but passable for the mood, and the lyrics are really good!

I had Suno "remaster" my preferred Version 1 of the above fabrication, using their newest model.  It seems to have fixed nearly all of the vocal artifacts.  Man, musical artists have long since had to pivot toward live performances for their bread and butter as record deals died out and streaming became ubiquitous... the ease and fluidity of this AI music generation is only going to cement that fact permanently.  Live music or bust.

right now I'm generally unimpressed with AI. Yes it can be pretty useful for some things, but other things it just straight up gets wrong, lies or misleads you. And by that I mean telling you what it thinks you want to hear. I'm talking about chat GPT by the way, it's pathetic how bad some of the answers are, but it's useful for problem solving certain things. About about the AI music? All I've heard is big talk about how AI is going to revolutionize the world and it's all happening so fast, but it's been 2 years and I haven't seen anything major yet like all musicians and movie producers and writers etc and all these people who are supposed to be out of jobs because AI does it better? Maybe it's coming but it's being slow about it.
