Well I'll admit my first was a disaster but I learned the most from this attempt. I used 12 jars (because I had a 12cc syringe). Of those 2 colonised at the speed of light, 2 took forever to colonise the bottom, one lost from innoculating when the jar was still too warm (or maybe i skipped it who knows). Basically expect the unexpected and give the guys some privacy even though you will want to look at them all the time. Check at 6 day intervals while cakes are still in the jar make observations, take notes throughout. then you can answer your own questions and give us the details if we need em. If you need any questions answered PM me and Ill help you out no prob.

Well, right now I have 4 cakes (after one was a total disaster, way too much water) that are doing really well. I baked the Verm and flour, boiled the water before, sterilized the jars before and then resterilized while the mix was in the jars (classic MMGG) and flame sterilized needles before injection. wore mask and gloves at all times, cleaned myself and surrounding work stations with clorox anti-bacterial wipes. 85 degree colonization time.

I plan on buying four 12cc syringes (from sporechicks), and enoculating 5 jars (using the PF tek) with 1 to 1 & 1/2cc's of spores in each hole. i havent eaten any shrooms for a while, so im definately looking forward to it. (im just scared of contamination)

why are you using that much inncoulate per jar? I got my syringes from sporechicks. I used 2 syringes to innoculate 12 jars. Half cc each hole, a total of 2 cc's per jar. From what everyone tells me I had a great success so I wouldn't think that that much would be necessary.

I tried Homesteads kit about 9 years ago and failed. 3 hears later I did the pf thing and succeded. I did that off and on for a year and had no idea what a damn casing was untill I met this kid named ALDER....he is a FOAF and that was 'bout 2 or 3 months ago. I am not to the point where I feel confident enough about what I do. I am putting away the psylo's for a while and my focus now is on edibles. Cant live in paranoya forever, but will never give up on this hobie....who knows, maybe sneak a few pan-trops/cyans into the mix now and again. peace peoples...ALDER_057

Heh! Yeah, I had a homestead kit about 7/8 years ago and failed miserably with it. I always get a good chuckle when I see posts about homestead, there usually all the same!

Karen, he is trying to get it to colonize faster, and you are correct that it is a waste. If people would just have patience a 10 cc syringe would do up 10 jars even twelve. same yield to hjust a little slower. I like you always use 2 cc's per jar for faster colonizing time.

Tis another first timer here...innoc twelve jars 3 weeks ago, probably ready to birth in a week. Did another dozen 4 days ago with different strains, improving upon first experience. Pasteurized and didn't worry too much about cleanliness. Found that proper mixture of substrate matters most (verm/brf.) Also, flatter jars seem to innoc faster.

I'm planning to use 3 clear frosted plastic storage boxes w/perlite. Tips from the vets here appreciated...

First time is gonna be on friday (next 13 april). I am gonna make five 3/4 quart jars of equadors, with agar chunks, on rye with a 50/50+ casing and 2 3/4 quart jars with PF classic on rye with 50/50+casing also with agar chunks , in terrarium with perlite on bottem.

My friend's first time was also with the Oss book back in 1977. Bought a kit at a head shop. Plastic container with rye in it- "all you need is water" read the come on. Contaminated 3 or 4 of those before he gave up. Came across the Oss book (has a delectable cub on the cover) in the garage and re-kindled the interest. So, he started again. after 3-4 failures and a pile of grain about 10 pounds deep under the spruces in the fuck-up graveyard, success is at hand. However, he is cautiously optimistic. There's many a slip twixt the spore and the lip.

ah, the first time.

began by typing "mushrooms.com" and got some page with 15 links. One link was "Magic." That took me to PF's site and I read the tek about 150 times before buying one syringe.

My first attempt was a mere 4 cakes, which yielded me about 5 dry grams.

Man was I eager when I saw the first pins.
