Should you wait until after you see pins in 1/2 pint jars before you take out the cakes and transfer them? Or, just when they turn 100% white?

to birth them?
give it a couple days after 100% colonization is achieved

Yes to birth. I believe PFTEK actually says to wait until you see pins in the jars before taking them out to birth.

but i guess i'm impatient

that's why my foaf doesn't mess with cakes anymore

have you looked into dunking and rolling, etc
