Pin or Birth?
    #1019170 - 11/03/02 09:19 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

There seem to be a fair amount of discrepencies online of whethere one should pin their cakes in the jars, or just birth them and have them pinning in there. 3 weeks after innoculation, my cakes are coming along nicely, but I have a few that have been fully colonized for the last few days. I was thinking early next week, I will birth them in my PF-style chamber (perelite, aqurium heater/bubbler). My last question is: two of my jars have been fully colonized on the bottom since friday morning. Close to the neck of the jar, there is maybe 1cm of sparsely colonized area all the way around. It was my understandin that jars grew slowest on the bottom, so is this normal and can I birth my two cakes that are ready say, tomorrow?

I birth without pinning, I don't think there are any advantages either way, just personal preference. Yeah you can birth them tomorrow.
