to get with the times you guys can attach solar cells to your backpack charging up a battery bank in your backpack.

If you're going to do it by car or will live out of your car, think RV panels to max out your battery.

If you camwhore a bit on youtube, your america trip can pay for itself, monetize that.

Been train hopping/hitchhiking and walking around the country on and off between living situations/jobs for the past 8 years now. I just travel with a tarp, a sleeping bag, a  good water jug, some food and my phone. Don't take much to just go.

I've always thought it would be super cool to train hop because of all of the sights.

I'd imagine there really isn't security as most people wouldn't even think about train hopping. Have you ever got caught before? If so what happened?

Been caught a couple times and not much happens depending on how you talk to the rail security. It is getting tighter now after social media has been blowing it up recently and railcops are more inclined to write tickets. Ive got a good rep with most yards though. As long as you're being respectful and making an attempt to hide most of the time they will look the other way. It just depends on where you're at some places will arrest  you like havre which is a big break inspection check up on the hi-line but workers get incentive there to call you in and it's mandatory jail time for up to a week but most you'll do is a night In jail and then other places like ogden utah the railcop gave us candy canes and told us to ride safe. I've had a lot of friends get arrested on the rails I've only ever gotten tickets though and the tickets don't usually make it back to court and if they do they become bench warrants that don't really leave the state. It's all about bein a ninja though and trying not to get caught

But ya you do get caught eventually just a matter of where and when and just hope that it's in a yard where they are willing to work with ya and be respectful

Here's a ticket I got in Rathdrum Idaho a long time ago for kind of an example of how it goes most of the time.

What's funny is I went back to the yard and caught out the next night.

Are you going to write a book or blog of some kind at some point? I'd love to read it. Maybe see if you can get a ghostwriter. Heck, maybe I'd offer to do that; you should have some good stories to tell and it'd be a shame if they remained untold.

I traveled from Nor Cal to the Panama Canal with just a backpack. Lots of hitch hiking. Good times and some close calls. Got dengue in Costa and laid up for two weeks while it flooded. You meet a lot of great people traveling like that. Some close calls for sure.

One time I was walking and someone drove by and threw an empty can at me and yelled

"get a car"

FTRA are going to bum you and throw you off the train!!!!
Just kidding, are there real hobo freight gangs in 2024? I am into freight graffiti culture and I get a peek into hopping, its looks fun, but dangerous. All the theft and illegal immigrants and kids on IG must be heating shit out these days. I got caught trespassing at a layup, not a yard, but they let me off with a warning, I do my photography now from legal public places

anyone that claims FTRA now we just laugh at. That's a thing that people who think they are "traincore" and attached to a scene around it Try to replicate it or LARP ftra or try and make other little cute tags with their little rail gangs of fentanyl addicted trust fund kids. Idk. Short answer, no.

If someone claims fuck the reagan administration riding the rails in 2024 they probably have an apartment in Portland Oregon and a following on social media with a bunch of other people who glamorize and worship dumb shit like rail gangs or think it's punk rock to spend a bunch of money on dressing cool and to try to show the man what's up by getting a new back patch

I shower just about every day now. Not when I traveled like that though.

I'm much less feral than I used to be.
