white orbs.. spirits?

hey all i dont know if this is quite the right forum for this or not but since this is about theories, ill ask. i was at a friends house a while back. he told me before that his house was haunted, he told me a story where his brothers door slammed all by itself and some object which i forget was picked up and hurled at the door, you can still see the dent. anyways we took a few pictures this one night when we were drunk in his basement and in every picture taken there were countless perfectly round white orbs, some bright white and some very faint and hardly visible. these orbs were present no matter where the picture was taken. i dont have the picture in my possesion though i wish i did. i was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge or theories of what this is. i assumed they were spirits but i dont know anything on that subject. anyone know?

Funny how when video cameras first came out there were tons of UFO tapes with all of the UFOS having the same shape. This was "evidence" of their reality. Come to find out the UFO shape was an artefact of the camera's aperature being pointed at ANY small light source.

Just another case of wanting to believe obscuring reality.

I've seen lots of photos with these orbs.... go to any graveyard after it gets real dark and snap away with a camera, almost guaranteed you will get an orb(but use a digital camera just incase you dont get any so you don't waste film) WHO KNOWS what is it about graveyards and orbs!... could it be a light reflection phenomenom? or actuall spirits willingly being captured on film?

MAIA, yes the orbs looked similar to the one in your picture. These orbs were not in the same place in every pic, they were scattered everywhere in different places. There were at least 50 orbs in each picture, I could hardly belive my own eyes! There were no reflective surfaces or anything like that that would obscure light into looking like orbs. It was a very interesting experience and I would love to go back to his parents house and see if I could get the same results!

Yep, I do.

First, let me establish this: I've got a strong background in photography, both silver-based and digital, and have been working semi-profesionally for some time now.

They're dust. That's all. It's dust that's close to the camera, caught by the flash of the camera. Notice how you only get these in pictures where the flash was used? Well, that's why.

well, you could stay at my place and I would pick you up so the only fee would be airfare ! what I really meant though, is why don't you do some exploring of your own instead of bashing something you have never tried.... go to your local graveyard and snap like a mad man... do some research, then make a conclusion

I had a friend who used to go to creepy old cemetaries all around New England.

She took a bunch of pictures at one particular graveyard, and there were orbs in lots of the pictures.

While I am usually quite a skeptic, seeing these photos yourself taken by a close friend is pretty intriguing.

Some time in the future I'd like to try to take some pictures of my own, as this is the most solid "evidence" I have ever seen of something more out there.

It's just a combination of cheap cameras with cheap lenses and cheap flashes right alongside of the lens taking pictures in dark, dusty areas. While I believe in many paranormal phenomenae, these 'orbs' are simply the result of brightly-lit points on a dark field, inside of the near focus of the camera. Wide-angle lenses, as are found in most of the cheap cameras that people use for these kinds of things, exascerbate this problem. I could sketch out the geometry of the light-cones and such, but that's too much of a pain in the ass.

I don't.  People tend to avoid haunted places, making them low-traffic areas.  Dust settles quite readily in these areas, and tends to get kicked up when people enter them.

Similarly, 'creepy old cemetaries' tend to have lots of shit in the air, from airborn vegetable matter to gnats and other insects.
