Mimosa or Acacia In DMT extraction...?
    #28518889 -

Greetings comrades,

I'm just wondering if anyone has a preference for bark in extracting - Acacia Confusa or Mimosa Hostillis? They both have their pros and cons, Acacia yields about 20 grams of deems per kilo, whereas Mimosa hovers around 10 grams per kilo. Also, acacia is easier to source than mimosa, though it's gotten much harder. The best thing about mimosa is that it's much more forgiving than acacia and allows you to do the extraction without heat.

Acacia is very cumbersome compared to mimosa because you have to use heat for the extraction and even then it sometimes yields jungle goo, which is still active, though not as pretty as crystals. I honestly can decide which one is superior because when you get Acacia right it's amazingly gratifying because you get double the yield, and having failed at achieving crystals a few times myself with acacia, I felt amazingly proud when I got it right and saw 20 grams of beautiful white crystals precipitating in the freezer.

I haven't been around the scene for awhile, so I'm just wondering what people prefer to use these days. I would say mimosa is for beginners and acacia is intermediate. Doing a tek with acacia isn't rocket science, but it can be a pain in the ass at times. If mimosa was easier to source and a bit cheaper I'd say just go with that tek at the easy to achieve room temperature. But if you want the DMT gods to shine down on you and reward your persistence and know-how you are pleasantly rewarded with double the yield. I've also not noticed any difference in the purity of crystals obtained from either one, despite the fact that acacia also contains n,MT. I'd really love to see some DMT porn here, but especially teks done with acacia because I know how finicky it can be. So what do you prefer? Mimosa or Acacia? Survey says...

Momosa is the gold standard. Acaia is half NMT. Plus you need to defat

Fixed it a whole bunch for you mate

Acacia just requires more skill and practice. People starting out should definitely start with mimosa.

This is an acacia pull, pressure cooked, based, straight to mini A/B and then frozen.

You could get similar results without the mini A/B on mimosa and never use heat. The choice is obvious for people who can access mimosa though.

What’s a mini A/B?

I got nice clean crystals using acacia by acid cooking > np solvent pull for oils > basing > np solvent pull for alkaloids  > freezing.

If there are still oils in your final product you can redissolve in np solvent > salt the alkaloids with an acid water and separate (discarding np solvent) > base the aqueous solution and pull again with np solvent.

Is that kind of what you meant by mini A/B? Like a second round to clean it up more?

Yep pretty much that, except using it as a primary cleanup rather than a final one.

Mini A/B is where you drop your initial pulls onto household vinegar. Swirl around aplenty, pull the vinegar out from underneath, base it in another container, pull from that.

Yeah it's hella less work and better results. I've made some evil looking  concoctions using this tek, check out these psychotria pulls on vinegar.

Would rather just make a STB goop with mimosa and pull and be done with it though. But it doesn't quite tickle all the "I'm a scientist now" feelings.

Yeah I definitely enjoy the extra steps to hone in some skills haha… not that I do it often enough to be especially good at it lol

Okay, great so this will be a learning experience for me, not just a survey of sorts. Please explain the defatting process with acacia, because my main gripe about acacia is that sometimes I yield goo and not crystals, while other times I get 20 grams off a kilo. Also, I've also read about acacia having half NMT; however, in smoking the crystals they definitely seem just as strong as deems from mimosa. 50 mg of crystals from mimosa and/or acacia are essentially interchangeable for me. Acacia doesn't seem half as strong as mimosa.

The lazy me definitely prefers the cold method of extracting from mimosa. It's just so friggin easy. The elitist psychedelic snob in me prefers acacia because you feel a lot more hip when you yield crystals from acacia because it takes more finesse. lol, it's just more gratifying, plus you're rewarded with twice the yield. Please give me the run down of how to avoid getting goo with acacia. I always add asorbic acid instead of vinegar so it doesn't smell and until the pH is right. All this is done in a water bath of boiling hot water, I've even double boiled it on the stove putting a small washcloth on the bottom of the pot and placing the 1/2 gallon jug in this hot water bath. I then add my lye until I see the crystals crash out, then add naptha and tilt the jar, don't shake.

After the naptha is nicely on top I decant it into pyrex dish and place it in the freezer. Sometimes I get crystals and sometimes I get goo, can anyone tell me why I have this inconsistency? It happens even when I use the same bark, I do the same process but get different results. I'm guessing maybe it has to do with the temp of my hot water bath and if it's too hot I pull extra oils into the naptha. Anyway, I'd love to know how to make my acacia pulls consistently crystals and it sounds like I need to defat. Can someone confirm this for me and tell me how to properly defat?

Thanks y'all

Instead of going straight to freeze precipitation with your alkaloid containing naphtha pulls you need to do a mini a/b as Northener described.

1. Take the naphtha and add it to a clean jar, then to the naphtha add an equal portion of white vinegar.

2.  Put a lid on the jar and mix the two layers to expose the alkaloids to the acetic acid in the vinegar.

3. The alkaloids will now be in their acetate salt form and will be soluble in the aqueous layer (the white vinegar), and will migrate to the aqueous layer. The fats and oils which are giving you your problems will remain in the non polar layer (the naphtha).

4. Separate the two layers.

5.  Add your lye to the aqueous solution until you reach the desired pH and pull out the free based alkaloids with fresh naphtha, then proceed to freeze precipitation.

Also...

DMT in goo form is still just DMT. I think the word is polymorphic iirc. Someone on Nexus did a GCMS test of goo, and it was just DMT.

Goo is good for changa anyway, and living up here in the humid like we do Bardy xtals have a life expectancy of about 10 minutes before they become goo anyway.

Really? Huh, that’s interesting.

I remember I kept some crystals for probably 6 months in a dryer climate. They started off pure white and slowly turned a salmony colour which I assumed was DMT-n-oxide formig, but maybe it was just turning to this goo. I think I recall it being sticky in the end.

Thanks for that!! It sounds straight forward enough. Does anyone have a pic of the naptha and vinegar together? Are the layers easily discernible from each other, just wondering since they're both clear, but I imagine it'll just separate like water and oil. Also, can you see the DMT crash out when you add the lye to the vinegar containing the DMT? I always tried telling people that the goo was still good, but nobody wanted to fuck with it, we have psychedelic elitist snobs where I live rather than true psychonauts. I've even read a lot of good reviews on the DMT goo and many people were happy to obtain the goo and make jungle spice out it. If this mini a/b that you describe solves the problem of goo, I don't see any reason to use mimosa over acacia, since acacia yields double the DMT. I'd be curious to have someone test the purity of acacia v. mimosa crystals, because I'm aware of the whole n,MT issue, but like I said, I've noticed no difference in potency between acacia and mimosa crystals, which I would be curious to hear scientifically explained...

Nevermind on the photos of vinegar and naptha, I'm assuming that's what Bardy's photo is. Is the naptha usually that yellow? Mine is usually much clearer than that, or is that after the DMT has been pulled out and just all of the residual plant oils? I think I answered my own question there. Guessing that's the completed defatting reaction and DMT conversion to acetate. Correct me if I'm wrong.

When you guys use Acacia, are you still giving everything a hot water bath throughout, or is that superfluous? It'd be great if I could treat Acacia like Mimosa, but I've only had luck when babying it with a cumbersome hot water bath.

thanks

From Mimosa, my crystals were very light and snowflake like and I could imagine them turning softer into goo if they were in a hot, humid environment. Whereas from acacia I yielded coarser salt like crystals. Not sure if this difference was due to starting materials are to the chemistry, but the crystal composition seemed different. They seemed identical coming out of the freezer, but the acacia crystals seemed like they'd be more stable long term and more resilient to heat and humidity. The mimosa crystals were so light and snowy the I could easily envision them changing constitution.

Can you describe your tek? Are you still doing an acid boil, then basing, then adding naptha, pulling naptha, then defatting with vinegar and fresh naptha? What is the difference between what I was doing and the STB tek? I'm guessing STB is less work than what I described and am wondering if it works well with Acacia? I'm guessing so, since your pic is with psychotria. Anyway, I don't really care about feeling like a chemist anymore, I just want to yield my 20 grams of crystals with as little work and effort as possible. Please describe the STB with acacia including the defatting. Thanks a lot

P.S. Sorry about the multi-posts. I think in spurts. lol

Yeah, that pic is of naphtha and vinegar. The naphtha in the top layer contains a lot of plant oils and fats so it’s off colour.

Even if your naphtha doesn’t contain that amount of oil you’ll still be able to tell the difference between the layers. The alkaloids should colour the naphtha by themselves slightly, or at least make it a little cloudy or something I think.

And no, DMT doesn’t crash out like that as far as I’m aware… I haven’t done the extraction in quite a while though so maybe my memory is not so good. It’s still necessary to pull with clean naphtha for freeze precipitated crystals.

After you neutralise the leftover acetic acid with sodium hydroxide it will form freebase alkaloids and a lot of  sodium acetate, which might also crash out of solution to some degree, so it’s still necessary to pull with naphtha rather than filtering for the DMT

And yes, what you describe is exactly how to do it.
