Too Late To Plant?
    #2851277 - 07/02/04 02:39 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

I want to plant some Heavenly Blue Morning Glories as I already have seeds and maybe some other flowers as well as some new vegetables. Some say it's too late to plant? What do you think?

Where do you live? It might not be too late, those fuckers grow pretty fast and I've seen them put off flowers in 6 weeks or less. Where I live they didn't set seed pod until mid october either, so you should have a fair amount of time.

I live in Maine. And I desperately want to grow some more plants/flowers/vegetables. I love growing things, it's almost a religious experience for me.

You could try growing indoors, I've never been to maine so I don't know first hand the climate there, I assume it gets really cold....you could put them in a big pot and sit it next to a very large lattuce (outside).....then let them grow up it, hopefully they will flower and set seed before the first frost. Either way before the first frost you could trim back (effectively severing the plants from their attatchment to the lattuce) and bring the whole pot inside and set it next to a window. They may still die though as they are an annual, but their not hard to start again from seed. I wouldn't be suprised though if you couldn't get them to grow year round indoors, I started my first indoor plants in november and grew them all winter indoors, they did die however due to some spider mites. I've had huge success with them outdoors and they set more seeds than I could consume. (this however was a MASSIVE plant covering about 20 feet of 8 foot chain-link fencing and most of a telephone pole sitting adjacent to it)

not positive but from what im told your climate is fairly simialr (temp wise) as ours is. morning glory is a noxious weed here, and is actually illegal in some municpalities because it spreads and kills. if you plant it, i would plant it in a pot to prevent it from spreading too much. it has killed large maple and sumac trees and countless shrubs and flowers in our yard. 8 years have gone by and we are just now starting to keep it back.

i think it should be fine in your area, this stuff is worse than dandelions.
