i been wanted to get some grow bags to spawn to hmc and then case with coco coir how meny should i get to get and estimaited 1lb dry

I'll take a shot at this.

Dry substrate conversion to dry mushrooms is about 10%. To get 1 pound of mushrooms you would need 10 pounds of dry compost. Compost ready to go is about 65-70% water (which I assume High Mountain Compost is). So you need about 15 pounds of hydrated compost to get 1 pound of dry mushrooms.


A good minimum spawn rate is about 10% by weight of compost. A small Rye mycobag contains about 1 pound of spawn. Corn, grain based and straw mycobags should also work.

So 2 small mycobags and 15 pounds of compost should do the trick. The extra spawn will speed colonization.

This is just a rough estimate of a good yield under optimal conditions. Nutrients added with the rye spawn was not calculated into the final harvest weight. With luck/skill more than a pound of mushrooms is possible using the above amounts.
