Seedlings in Grow Bag: To kill or not to kill
    #947308 - 10/09/02 08:28 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Whenever I used pastuerized cow patties in my grow bags one or two seedlings sprout. When using regular casings I usually just pull em out but I dont want to open the grow bag.

Lately I have been pinching the sprouts from the outside of the grow bag. They are starting to die and I am worried about contamination.

To kill or not to kill??

I feel that they wont pose a threat...it would be safer to just let them live. Make sure you are pasturizing long and hot enough. (1hr 15 min. @ 175F)

I've got that too... I can't imagine how a rye seed can survive an hour in a pressure cooker??!?
Still, they don't seem to do any harm.

what? youre sterilized rye sprouts? That's not right. Pasturized seeds sprout every now and then, but sterilized ones should be dead.
