Does a 5 litre rye seed jug need to be aerated?

Hey.. Do I need to aerate a 5 litre jug with rye seeds inside or is a slightly loose lid sufficient? jug will be innoculated and shaken every day.... does the fungus even need oxygen in the colonization stage?

Have you done any reading at all?

You need to prepare the jar for grains. Gonna need tyvek or polly fill. Loosen the cap and shake and your doomed. Grains contam very easily.

oh.. jsut discovered the whole grains section.... so now the reading starts.... but it mentions that the lid should be loose (or filter discs used) and ~3 shakes should be done..... have I misread???

the basic grain advantage is the fast colonization.. right?

Naw, you haven't missread. Sounds like your on the ball now.

Use the disks or poly fil. I like to shake the jars right when there shot up. (spore spreader). Once at about 10 to 20 % done. Then the last shake at about 50%. My quart jars finish between 6 and 9 days. (Rye grain)

wheat berries will work fine. average minimum... 3 days. I've had jars take weeks to germinate. And I have some that have been over a month and still haven't germinited. The spore vendor sent me new syringes though. So we'll see how they do.
