Hunter you shouldn't have worried about those prints being dirty. Azurescens on agar. Four out of four looking damn good. Hopefully I don't fuck it up.

I used this cardboard to cover one of my best cultivated spots during the summer/early fall. I pulled it off about 4-6 weeks ago and I just threw it on top of the woodchips in another prime spot. I pulled it up tonight to see anything was going on and found P. Allenii mycelium spreading incredibly fast considering how cold it’s been. Pleasantly surprised.

This little patch is slowly putting out more pins.  A subaeruginosa var. pine plantation.  It’s been cold as shit, shades freezing all day.

yeah the freeze definitely is not the end for me either

we had many days way below freezing, got as low as -10°C a few nights, snowed plenty

I still have some cyans that survived without much, if any, damage

not sure how that is possible, but it happened. They are in the slightly raised planter, about one foot off the ground, maybe that somehow made a difference? I will get some pics later anyway

So now the weather is warming up to 10°C in the next few days and will hold there over new years, this global warming shit is insane, this has got to be some sort of record for here where I live

maybe the Azures that never showed up will still put in some sort of appearance even

If it were those in the Log, then yes. The thick wood around the soil provides a good isolation, and if you mulched them on top, then even better protection.

I don't think they "survived" as much as they haven't started rotting yet. But if they continue growing then it's nothing short of a miracle. But at -10C man.. dont think so

Good stuff y'all! I love seeing people succeed into winter.

I was given a petri of ovoids that I transferred onto wheat berries about a month ago but they're colonizing insanely slowly. I just came across that indoor ovoid thread that mentioned needing extra air exchange for faster growth on grain, any thoughts on if I should change anything? Maybe there's a contam I'm not seeing?

I think we forget that these things thrive in cold places.
I wouldn’t read too much into that indoor ovoid thread, it never really made it anywhere.  What do you have for gas exchange now?  They really don’t need much, if there was enough ge to prevent a seal in the pc then that’s enough.  Could be that verm layer on the bottoms dried the outside of the grain out too much, but take that as a maybe.

I've got a standard mason jar lid with a hole (~1/8") with some craft felt siliconed over it which has never seemed to be an issue for edibles or cubes over the years.

I just happened to have verm around when I made these jars but I don't normally use it with grains. I was also thinking they looked drier than I usually make them, could have cooked them up a little drier than usual too. I had an extra syringe of sterile water so I shot one of the jars with maybe 10-15ml yesterday, we'll see if that one moves any faster.

My slow-voids haven't done much colonizing, except in the fall/winter time. They seem to only like it cold. They are frozen solid right now, but keep thawing out depending on the weather. Seems that's when it colonizes the most, between the thaw cycles.

  I been waiting over a year just for it to start eating into a small bag worth of alder chips in a plastic tote, lol.

By march I should have a nice little flush again, and some good chips to spread too. I'm ok with knowing it might take a few more years to have some well established patches, letting nature do the work.

I mean, what can I possibly do to speed up the process?

Seems like patience is the only thing that work with these.. Think in terms of years.. That is what they are trying to teach me.To chill out and just wait.

If those were my jars I'd be shaking the hell out of them. I'd also not have filled them as much to make it easier to shake.

My friend, that spawn is VERY contaminated and it is not fully colonized yet.  If you are doing this for indoor projects you need to go back and clean up your culture on plates.  If it's for outside spawn, full steam ahead.

Yes, I would put that in a park, or supplement and sterilize gourmet blocks with it, something that doesn’t take any more of you effort time or space.
It is very bad looking grain(take note I’m not calling it spawn), the cyans usually give a lot more grace than other species, but that only goes so far.

This morning I transferred my 2 buckets of ovoid mycelium to their outdoor bed. I checked on them and noticed a little green was in there. They were about 75-80% colonized. Mixed the chips into the bed of large mulch made up of random wood and branches from a chip drop, topsoil, and compost that has been outside since the summer. Hopefully it goes alright.

My 3 tubs of mycelium are doing fine, almost at 100% colonization.No contams that I can tell.  I put them in my garage to get acclimated to the weather before they go out to the beds too. I'll check in a week and see how the green is before I put the tubs out.

I’ve had this stunzii tub outside for a long time, and figured it was maybe just too cold out for it so I brought it inside took the lid off and was planning to dry it out over a couple weeks, then recase and put it in the greenhouse or something.  I’d also used a pretty woody substrate so maybe it needed to chew on it a little more.  Well had to rotate my tubs I’m drying out and took a look and the dang thing threw some side pins.
