Re: Teach me to fast! [Re: gopher]

I agree completly with you that keto can be done healthy or unhealthy. And usually the healthy version is called clean keto.

Same is with vegan diet. You can eat all chips and sugar and it is vegan but dont call it healty.
Eating only eggs and bacon and mayo does not make good for you in long run and constipaton can be a bitch you know.

My intake to this is 0,5kg of veggies per day average to keep your diet healthy. 1kg better.

The carb limit of 20g is only for the induction period of like 2 weeks. After that you start to bring it up to 50g little by little. Like adding 5g for example more per week until you reach 50g.

Should we start seperate keto thread or do we keep it here with fasting?

I would like to try fasting for the first time in my life.
Any ideas how many days I should start with?

If you work a typical 9-5 M to F kind of schedule, starting with Saturdays or Sundays is pretty good and doesn't require too much buy in.

Could also try just eating one large meal per day instead of several medium or small ones. All kinds of ways to skin the cat, healthy and unhealthy ways to approach each.

For anyone curious, I've been unintentionally intermittently fasting for about 12 years.

I think my diet naturally gravitated toward that kind of regimen when I became an alcoholic.  Not sure it counts if you are drinking all day because that is a whole lot of calories...now that I mostly don't drink though, I still only eat one meal a day and it feels pretty natural.  I only eat after work so a meal basically tells my body to get to bed afterward.

I don't really notice any benefits.  My body hangs on to calories like I'm gonna wander the desert for 40 days any second, so I'll possibly outlast most folks in a starvation situation.  I'm literally on my feet moving at a fast pace for 8-12 hours straight per day, but I still have my beer gut months after I cut out alcohol. It will take exercise on top of a physically active job to lose any weight for me. I already intermittently fast.

When I was a distance runner I ate 3 meals a day plus snacks and burned it as fast as I could eat it.

I have an endomorph body type.

First I'd recommend having a healthy diet

After that is recommended preparing for the fast ahead of time by taking in quality food full of vitamins and nutrients

Can be as simple as fruit

Easiest way to fast is end dinner at whatever time, say 7pm, and start your fast then. Then you can easily have a fast for 12 hours before breakfast. Or put breakfast off longer if you'd like

I'd experiment with that and see how you feel etc and adjust based on that

If you feel the need to try 24+ fasts then go for it

Make sure you're getting the proper nutrition before hand and after

If I eat at like 8pm and then don't eat again until 12pm the next day does that count as fasting?

Anything less than 24hr is detrimental, the benefits only start after about 36 hours, 3 days is a good start

I feel like I'd be more likely to fast that long for some type of crazy spiritual psychedelic experience rather than for health reasons. Probably going to take me a while to build up to that.

Yeah it would be a 24+ hour fast so idk why he says it doesn't count

Fasting is not consuming anything that your body breaks down

You need to fast for a certain period for your body to enter certain states

Do some research outside shroomery

Saying anything less than 24hr fast is detrimental is one of the dumbest things I've ever read

You have physical benefits from intermittent fasting which can be 8-12 hours
