I'm in that demographic and I still don't know anyone who died from covid, though there are a few recent ones where no one says what happened and i don't want to be that ghoul who asks how someone died. I would think "leading cause" would mean I would know someone who died, maybe i just don't know enough people.

It was like 16% of deaths in that age group Jan-Oct, so even if you knew two or three deaths in that age group, you’d still be more likely to not know someone who died of covid.

This study missed a lot of the delta wave and all of omicron. But it really shows how the relative increase of covid deaths from 2020 to 2021 was very age dependent, younger age groups had 2-3 times as many covid deaths in 2021, middle age has 1-2x as many and the elderly had fewer deaths in 2021. I suspect this is almost entirely due to vaccination rates. If we didn’t have vaccines available when they were 2021 would have been a lot worse.

Can we make this a covid AND monkeypox thread?

Monkeypox cases have doubled in the US in three days to over 1,400. That may be a function of commercial testing coming online, but currently the positivity rate for monkeypox tests is nearly 40%.

That said, the calling of Covid seasons is a bit arbitrary due to the process being diffuse and we are not far from the fall.


Covid has a new variant taking the world by storm, more and more people catch Monkeypox, if the majority of regular contributors of thius thread is in favor, we could make a 4th installment that combines covid and monkeypox.

A monkeypox thread might soon be sticky material, two stickied pandemic threads are too damn depressing, i think creating one Pandemic Thread is the way to go.

I also don't know anyone who's died from Covid. But once things relaxed a bit and I started circulating and seeing more people again, I then began to hear about their immediate relatives who had passed away.

Bullshit. The after effects of Covid are still largely unknown. We're still much nearer the start line than any, now obviously improbable,  finish line.


It's not a matter of dying immediately,  it's all the other health issues that are and will continue to arise, especially related to heart, lungs, and vascular systems

Wait til they start finding coinfections like with Lyme.


And as you say,  wait til they start finding uncommon and specific illnesses/cancers related to specific variants.

I got the concept in jan 2020 when i stickied the first incarnation of this thread, causing some strain on the members and the staff. But how right we were, that early period everybody active in that thread had better intel than the president because we all researched independently in a nonpartisan way. We were taking supplies weeks before the toilet paper crazes.

Now everybody knows its a biggie but back then we were pioneers.

In the first winter of covid the admin team even gave every single shroomerite a 3 month supporter account to ease the lockdown and be safer.

This is all new and it developed into a major public issue very quickly. Anytime politics starts taking the stage away from scientists, there's going to be some major fuck-ups. All-in-all, this has been a really impressive response to a novel threat.

There's lots of this already turning up. prolonged infection is suspected in some of the long covid. last thing I read, there was still some viral RNA being found in people that had long covid, suggesting active replication of the virus. There are definitely allllll kinds of weird autoimmune conditions showing up after infection too. Some of those can do more damage than the primary infection, some go away after a while, and some leave lasting damage. Covid has a broad tissue tropism, it can have major effects on lots of different organ systems, and it's prevalence is way high, so there's a good chance of it interacting with other infections agents or medical conditions to create new illnesses that haven't been seen before.

The news is a captured industry. You are not allowed to own your own media outlet, outrightly. Yet, you believe that these controversies are populist in origin. 



State scientists were allowed schooling based on reverse prejudices and proactively censor social media, with automated fact checks.



Most of these are not real scientists or doctors, capable of executive function.
