ALso , in other news, I saw a guy at the store tonight wearing a mask and it seemed strange because almost no one wears one anymore and it's been that way for weeks. Social distancing is dead and there's only the skeletal reminders like the plastic shields between the cashier and the signs on the entrance saying do not enter if you have these symptoms.

But otherwise, where I live, covid has pretty much disappeared from the thoughts of most people.. FOR NOW! Hopefully forever.

BRO, DIDNT YA KNOW? COVIDS OVER!

PARTY TIME!!

Yup, yall keep on pretending. I'll keep wearing my mask(s) and staying away.

The vaccinated shed particles, infecting everyone else.

You are breathing around a tightly-filtered mask, or the openings in the material are far too large to block viral particles.

The efficacy of the vaccines/boosters also decline rapidly down to low %s between 3-6months from the last shot.

you realize that there's other viruses that create long-term damage as well right?

Almost every cold I've ever had was worse than covid. Granted that I was vaccinated. I will be extremely shocked if there are any noticeable long-term issues associated with my brief COVID bouts.

And by the way I always wore a mask at work but I'm 90% sure that that's where I got it both times because the staff just kind of falls over like Dominos whenever a new wave comes in. I'll admit that I got a little bit lackadaisical about the PPE after I got vaccinated. But I continued to wear an a n95 around covid positive patients as much as possible. There were a couple times where I was getting report on a patient and the nurse giving report failed to mention that the patient was covid positive. Because by that point covid positive status was like the least relevant datum to their deteriorating health

My mom is stunned she didn’t get sick. Spending hours in a car with someone coughing is about the worst exposure you can get. I told her about the supertaster study, so we just looked at her 23 and me data and my dads. They both only have supertaster alleles. My entire family are super tasters or tasters and not a single one of us has gotten covid. It seems like that being a supertaster really is a legit genetic superpower against covid.

This study should have gotten more attention. The results are extremely convincing that this is real genetic resistance to covid infection

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2780134

If you have done a 23andme dna test, log into your account and find the option to look at your raw data. Search for “tas2r38” C alleles are good. T alleles are bad. C/C is the best. T/T means you are particularly susceptible to infection and bad outcomes.

T/T accounted for 85% of infections in that study. The study tested phenotypes, but the nontaster phenotype is the T/T genotype

You know its funny. In the spring of 2020 I was so against the covid restrictions. Sure to some extent they made sense. Especially the sense of distance and cleanliness. But the lockdowns I thought were extreme. Un necessary. People not able to go to work. The economy devastated.

Yet I look at this chart now

In terms of ratio I can't understand what has changed. Social distancing is nearly non existent anywhere. Mask mandate nearly gone. Even in airports the mask mandate has generally been lifted.

So is the ratio of cases creating social distancing rules based more on death rates then anything else? Has the number of infections dropped?

Oh yes and the vaccine  well perhaps that vaccine has helped some people. But most people got really stuck up and cocky about that vaccine and thought one pop meant they were cured for life. In fact I think in the last 5 months I have known more people who got covid this year than any other year.

So what changed the social distancing rules recently? Number of deaths dropped right?

But number of cases? Please. I feel strange. The world needs to either lean towards lockdown status or total freedom status. What was wrong with distanced and extremely sanitized yet not locked down status?

I feel this vaccine really built up perception this thing is over. Well a flu vaccine is good for what? 4 months? Then chances are you catch the next mutation.

Pending economic conditions in my belief caused politicians to enjoy the benefit of over investing in certain industries. Major inflation. These industries do not do well in a social distanced world.

I mean whatever

The vaccine had its purpose but was not an end all be all. Biden's policies apparently only benefit the economy and Trump's benefited only the sick and dying?

 not that I believe in that shit. Federal policies are set by Congress. Not one man. Its a stereotype but a stereotype that well fits the situation.

Which is it? Total lockdown? Or total ignorance? Does this vaccine mean equal Covid cases are unequally treated because of a life and death ratio?

The healthcare industry to me is the strangest industry.

Phenotype? Like a phenotype difference is like a plant and one has a blue flower and the other has a red flower.

But a genotype difference is one beyond appearance.

What is a phenotype difference with covid? The way the virus looks under the microscope?

Phenotype difference in humans, not the virus, relating to the ability to taste bitterness. Some people are better able to detect bitter tastes than others, and this phenotypic variation is apparently tied to a gene that also affects covid immune response. I skimmed the article but I'm not too clear on how exactly they test people's bitterness response. Some kind of test kit some company makes.

There’s a few ways. They have chemicals that can or can’t be tasted depending on your phenotype. You can also count the number of taste buds in a prescribed area on the tongue. Or you can sequence their DNA and get the genotype.

This gene is responsible for the structure of a protein that makes up taste buds but is also in cells that are part of the immune system

In terms of infection protection, that only works with a fairly static virus with surface proteins that don’t change much. Say what you will about people pushing the vaccine, but the people pushing “natural immunity” were also wrong about the immunity to infection they we’re getting. People are getting covid over and over again. All the human coronaviruses you can get over and over again.

People who haven’t been vaccinated or infected are still just as susceptible to bad outcomes as they were back in 2020. There aren’t enough of those people to cause major problems during a wave so we don’t need restrictions anymore.

Auto-Summary
This forum post reflects on the author's seven COVID-19 infections over the past two-and-a-half years, comparing it to the flu. They express skepticism about the necessity of lockdowns and strict social distancing measures, citing lower death rates compared to early 2020. The author questions why the pandemic is treated less severely now, despite similar transmission rates, and suggests COVID-19 may become a common, less severe illness like the flu. They argue that the current response seems disproportionate to the current fatality rate, and wonder if the reduced severity is the primary reason behind the relaxed protocols.

Yeah no shit

I've had it like 7 times

 kind of surprised Im not dead

I'm a very stubborn person and I like to base my work opportunities without giving away a lot of private information about my life on traveling from place to place and taking advantage of whatever situation that can based on the scenario on the price evolved on the situation.

Herd immunity or not I mean I've gotten this covid shit like seven times. It's truly unlike anything I've ever gotten I feel like once every 10 years of my life I get the flu really bad and then for the next 10 years when I get the flu or not it's unnoticeable and I barely can tell I have it.

Up until covid I was only sick twice in my life where I was ever really worried that it wouldn't go away and use antibiotic to assist in infections that persisted past the symptoms of the virus and would not go away after a week or two of the virus going away.

Covid to me is just not like that. I mean I'm not a test subject and I haven't paid careful clothes detail attention to how this shit works but I will say this out of the seven times I've had it four times I swear I had no idea. The other three I was a little worried. It's like that once in a 10-year flu you get that you can't believe you get but for some reason it's just so bad but you probably won't get it again for a very long time. Except all of this within the last two-and-a-half years.

 not really sure what to make of all this. Am I stupid for continuing to go from place to place and not trying to have a more stay in one spot lifestyle? Where should I blame the world in the vaccine and everybody else for creating the stupid crap that keep getting over and over again?

Not to mention I'm not a big fan of antibiotics and all those things you take to get rid of prolonged infections that you got because you got a virus when you were in a very weakened state your body cannot fight it off very well and has lasting symptoms. I sort of have no one else to blame for that but myself. Regardless it is the consequences I face to travel abroad in a post covid world.

I'm not disagreeing with either point of view because I don't know what your point of view is right but I will say I agree with what you said. A lot of people say the vaccine is useless because this thing this covid mutates like every fucking 2 months so you take a vaccine and then two months later you need a new one so what's the point almost.

Then other people say "wow the herd immunity etc etc" and those people are retarded that herd immunity did not stop like 30,000 people from dying in Forest Hills Queens in retirement communities in the spring of 2020 who just could not get a herd immunity to covid and fucking made New York a fucking Battlezone for people trying to fight a virus they just killed thousands of people within one month. I had ironically been living in New York right around that East Brooklyn close to East Queens area right around the time that virus happened I mean if I stayed another two months I would have been there during that lockdown and during that horrible wave of deaths.

I don't actually know the answer to this virus I just believe some people handle it a lot better than others and also agree that it mutates like in fucking two or three months and it's almost like you're getting a totally different virus in like two or three or four months than the one you had three or four months ago. Kind of like the flu. Yet I feel the flu mutates a little slower and you have a little more time to prepare and I feel the fluid as a little harder time in warmer weather like during the summer months the flu becomes almost non-existent where as covid-19 think really cares.

The flu seems to give you this sort of really deep mucus filled cough kind of sickness. Covid gives you this very dry cough. Now in a lot of situations I would say the flu is a lot worse the symptoms are a lot worse the potential for pneumonia if bronchitis sets in from the flu can cause a lot of deaths and I'm not downgrading the flu and saying that the flu doesn't kill tons of people isn't entirely dangerous thing. I'm just saying covid-19 is its own thing with its dry cough and it's mutating twice as quick and its ability to kill older and immune-compromised people twice as fast as the flu at least seemingly. And it's a pain in the ass because to me the flu is something you know you have covid is this weird thing it comes in and you feel like you have a little bit of a sore throat and then before you know you're so sick you can't even believe it.

Okay now I want to go back to what I was saying back in 2020 when I made a prediction. I compared this a lot to the flu and a lot of people told me it's way different. But what I really said was regardless of how similar or dissimilar it is to the flu I believe it will just become a sort of social cold that is treated in some ways with a severity in other ways is treated with no severity at all just like the flu.

What my main question now is why in the world if the cases are still going up at the same ratio are the lockdowns and everything so basically non-existent at this point? I'm not saying the lockdown should still exist. I'm not saying I care about the lockdowns. But the cleanliness and social distancing was kind of a benefit I enjoyed when going out among people regardless of covid 19 in general  sickness to me seemed to dissipate when the social distancing measures an ultrasound at eyes cleanliness were more persistent on a basic day-to-day basis.

Is the only reason basically for the lack of social distancing measures now with the same amount of covid-19 contractual cases versus back in 2020 the fact that the rate of people dying from it is different than it was back in 2020? Isn't that sort of how the flu is treated it doesn't matter how many people contracted it's how many people actually die from it before people start worrying that the flu is hurting the community?

I'm just astonished this is being treated the same way and I'm kind of trying to figure out how why two years ago this was a very serious thing and now the mask mandate is so light you can't even worry about it in an airport anymore not that you'd want to but hey I mean you could just walk right into an airport without a mask and it's no big fucking deal.

Without trying to say they should just lock everything down hardcore and not just disagreeing with everything I said back in 2020 what is the main reason for the fact that covid contractions are just as common as they were two years ago and yet the amount of paranoid lockdown procedures are almost non-existent by comparison? Is it simply because of the fact less people are dying now?

I don't know whatever just blows my mind that is all

The way the disease behaves is different when 80% of the population has been infected or vaccinated. First off, the vaccines and previous infection prevent a lot of infections from happening. it also means a lot fewer people are at risk of getting really sick and swamping the healthcare system. The people who are still seronegative have chosen to be so (except for kids 5 and under).

Every wave is going to be less impactful. The virus actually was slowing down its mutation rate before omicron hit. Omicron didn’t evolve from other variants. It popped into the human population from a cryptic source, and had acclimated so many mutations that previous immunity didn’t really work. Those are the kinds variants that will cause problems in the future. The variants that evolve from previous variants aren’t a big deal.
