I would argue that the second amendment describes exactly what the Ukrainians are doing. People are organized into civilian militias and are given weapons to be part of that organization.

Both Switzerland and Ukraine have compulsory military service, which at the very minimum includes basic readiness training. The US doesn't even have effective driver's ed anymore.

The US would be taken down politically/culturally/economically. Political and societal collapse would precede any actual land invasion by a decent chunk of time. Guns would probably prove useful in a civil war, general chaos, or against a rogue government long before anyone would actually get to pull out their tek-9 and waste some foreign invaders.

Guerilla warfare would render a military offensive nearly useless against its own people. When more than 2/3 civilians are well trained owners and could be popping out of any random street hole or window it makes such military interaction not worth the effort. The country would evaporate right on top of itself.

I think you inadvertently assisted to make the point though. People shouldn’t be armed all all times in preparation for an invasion much like the one happening in Ukraine, but rather to protect from tyranny by their own government. In the latter, the government isn’t going to give weapons back to the civilians to ensure a fairer fight. The people in that scenario are just fuckt

Well except taking up arms against the United States is treason, according to the constitution, so certainly the 2nd amendment doesn’t exist for that purpose.

The constitution describes the process for changing the government. It’s not armed rebellion. Armed rebellion is a constitutionally defined crime. The only crime defined in the constitution. It’s just pure fantasy that any part of the constitution would even suggest armed rebellion as a remedy to future disputes.

And what does koods do when corruption has influenced the process to change government in such a way that it is out of control, and is now unjust and violent towards its own people? When that process of government and its duty to its population can no longer peacefully be reconciled, this is when it’s imperative to have held on to your second amendment right. Better that than having long ago ceded the very safeguard created by the designers of the process you believe in, should it ever quickly break down.
