koods said: Jesus really? This is what you think the issue is? Vaccinated people are generally not worried about getting covid. Fear of unvaccinated people isn’t the motivation. The problem we have is we are still having to wait for the unvaccinated to get vaccinated, get covid or die until there’s not enough of you left to consume all our healthcare resources. We are tired of waiting for covid to become endemic in this country. The unvaxxed are a burden we shouldn’t have to tolerate.
It’s perfectly possible to avoid getting an mRNA vaccine if you are scared. You shouldn’t be scared anyways. It’s been more than a year with billions of people getting shots and they are very safe. Don’t be scared. Be brave. Your irrational fears are dragging us all down.
You say you’re a biologist so you know what mRNA is. You know the molecule itself is essentially inert aside from its one function. You know that its one function is to instruct a ribosome to make the protein it encodes. You know that mRNA in the cytoplasm doesn’t interact with the cellular dna. You know the spike protein made with the mRNA is presented on the surface of the cell, in exactly the same process the virus itself uses to make spike protein. If you are worried about the mRNA vaccine, you really need to worry about the RNA virus.
You are free to choose. You may not like the choices, but life is full of difficult choices. time to grow up.
Great, we're already at theoretical herd immunity levels. You don't need every single person to get vaccinated. The unvaxxed are not a burden, they are people. There's plenty of people that consume "your" healthcare resources all the time outside of covid as well, are they a burden too? Should they be 'dealt with'?
Also I think it's a foregone conclusion that COVID will become endemic, like the flu, all across the world, no matter the vaccination rates. Portugal has over 90% vaccination rate yet they are still surging heavily with cases.
I'm not scared of the mRNA shot. The chances of COVID really hurting me are very low. I'm better off being scared about my diet & exercise & other things. I think people focus too much on COVID to be honest. The mRNA vaccine is not just composed of mRNA it also has various lipids and other stuff to help get it into the cytoplasm of cells. Anyway, my point is that current science is often wrong, we may think it's perfectly safe under current models, but there's a chance we don't know. We studied mRNA vaccines when I was in school, it was kind of a pipedream at the time. You can find articles from 2018 talking about how mRNA vaccines are promising but they couldn't get delivery right in vivo.
I get more concerned about government & pharma. Government started out the pandemic straight out lying to us...and pharma companies have massive incentives as well in this environment. I've worked in a vet pharma lab and seen how data can get "fudged" and there's already been major cases with FDA approved drugs getting recalled because the pharma companies lied and basically covered up or made up data. Just weird things like the FDA not wanting to release the vax data they reviewed for over 75 years (when they reviewed it in 4 months) too. I think people downplay these aspects.
koods said: Ugh. Heart disease and cancer are not infectious diseases. To whatever degree these diseases are caused by poor lifestyle choices, the damage is mostly limited to the individual. And to a certain extent, these diseases are not preventable. (Unlike deaths from covid, which are almost entirely preventable with the vaccines)
But we do limit the freedom of business and people in what they consume. We ban products and chemicals that are particularly dangerous to health. 100 years ago stomach cancer was one of the leading causes of death, but we began to force food manufacturers to use preservatives and started serious regulation of the food supply, and now stomach cancer is uncommon.
Smoking is a public health risk. We allow people to smoke cigarettes, but we limit where they can smoke. You can’t smoke in restaurants, bars, theatres, airplanes or workplaces.
Covid is a public health risk. We allow people to be unvaccinated, but we limit where they can be unvaccinated. You can’t be unvaccinated in restaurants, bars, theatres, airplane or workplaces.
And of course, we have always had vaccine mandates. Every child in this country has to be vaccinated for diseases far less deadly than covid. If you think giving you a choice between the vaccine and your job, we used to arrest and fine people who violated mandates. The polio vaccine was developed in two years, and the entire school age population was the clinical trial which you were required to participate in. For a disease with a 0.2% fatality rate and 95% asymptomatic and a vaccine that didn’t thoroughly prevent infection or transmission and required three shots to prevent paralytic disease.
Yes and my whole point above is that covid is easily limited to the individual as well if you choose to wear a mask & faceshield...but you said that part doesn't matter.. That's not what people are actually afraid of...
Regardless, many millions of lives could be saved if You got the opportunity to tell everyone what they can eat and control their exercise regime. Many millions more than covid, do you wanna do it?
Do you think that's good practice? Make the entire school age population your clinical trial? Surely it couldn't backfire right?
How about like I said earlier, you get to live in a community where you know that everyone is threatened thru force that they must be vaccinated, and I get to live in a community where I get to choose what to do? How does that sound?
