Moderna has consistently outperformed Pfizer in the real world. Some of that is likely due to the extra week between doses.

Going back a couple weeks, in the thread about NYE, I talked about how I was going to a show/party in SF and you mentioned it is much more likely than not that I or someone in my group will catch the virus.

There was one dude in our group of 6 heads that tested positive a couple days later on the 2nd..but he is pretty certain that he caught it from someone at his work earlier that week, since he got a notice of sorts saying he was likely exposed at work and he should get tested. Once tested he saw that he was positive and let us all know.

We were all sharing/passing around a bottle of champagne with him on BART on the way to the show too...but some how none of us caught it :shrug: . (or at least none of us have any symptoms, I haven't been tested to confirm).

Some patients at my hospital are missing important medical appointments at other facilities because there aren't any ambulances to transfer them to their location. National guard just started showing up today to help with transfers for the higher acuity ones.

The number of infected staff is dropping steadily, but the number of Covid patients we're seeing keeps rising and they're coming in in worse and worse shape. Today I treated a 60 year old who now needs a trach, shits himself every couple hours and will be eating through a PEG tube for the forseeable future. Permanent lung and kidney damage as well. A 41 year old who now requires a mechanical lift to get from bed to her wheelchair. The 60 year old had slightly high BP prior to hospitalization, 41 year old had no significant past medical history.

Had a patient die over the weekend the day after leaving the hospital, her family wasn't able to handle suctioning her trach and keeping her oxygen flowing, they're religious and "left it in god's hands". A coworker was treating a guy in his 30s who died last week, veteran who ran marathons and played basketball weekly. The hospital down the street is primarily COVID patients in their 30's and 40s at the moment. Almost everyone I've seen in rough shape/die from it "thought they had it" at some point (or multiple points) in the past.

You can guess the common theme in these cases. It's really like bizzaro world, we've all had almost 2 years to get a grasp on this and somehow people still can't make the incredibly easy choice.

Hopefully this thing peaks quick and burns out. It's a great couple of weeks to be wearing an N95 and staying away from people. I still don't understand why N95s haven't been pushed harder since they've been more available. It's nice to see the CDC changing stance on this a bit, even if it's sort of late and low key.

I know, right. I'm just pissed do my part and spark up a doobie since I can't smoke right now, when it could be saving lives. If smoking pot prevents transmission, then this victimless crime narrative might have gone up a few steps on the moral high ground.

True. That's what I figured, was still surprised I barely missed that by prob 24 hours. I imagine within 24 to 36 hours after we parted ways he became infectious, since 2 days later is when he tested positive.






Just found out my mother tested positive today (she just got tested and it came up +) and I live under the same roof with her at the moment. She was sick for 3 days or so last week, mostly just a lot of body load/aches/lethargy/fever (no loss of smell or much of any respiratory issues it seems), but she has been mostly back normal the past 4 days. She thinks she caught it last year but never got tested to confirm that time, so there is a chance this is her 2nd time catching it.

Before getting a test to confirm this most recent time, while she was sick she stayed in her own room/quarantined and avoided contact the entire time just in case. Still though, being in the same house and and sharing/exchanging some of the same "air" at some point I felt I was likely going to catch it.

Two days ago I started to feel like I was getting sick though....just a certain "floaty" shift/feel in my headspace that I always get when "coming up" into & noticing the first symptoms/signs of a flu/virus, along with a wave of lethargy/sleepy headed feeling, body temps fluctuating a bit, and some mild but pronounced aches/pains in the body, and a slight but pronounced itchy/sore sensation in the back of my throat (could be from the hash I've been smoking lol, but seems to persist and feels a lot more like a sore throat rather than an agitated throat from hot/dry smoke).

That was 48 hours ago and it never really developed into anything, getting the vaccine actually made me feel way more sick (but it was very similar symptoms). I never quite felt like I was "sick" but def had some symptoms/feels that were pronounced enough to have me thinking I was starting to get sick. I am vaccinated.

I should get tested to confirm, mostly out of my own curiosity...I'm a pretty isolated individual and don't go out in public much though.
