Yeah it's got a certificate of authenticity, so it's legit.

And yeah I kinda thought that it would be more too...but then again, Fear & Loathing has only a niche/cult following, so a demand for any of the memorabilia is probably not that high -- especially considering that the film is now something like 20 years old

One thing to consider is that a poster is generally quite large, which ups the glass and framing cost.  Glass type is also a factor.  One can use art glass(clear but poor uv protection), preservation glass(poor offset clarity due to reflection but good uv), or the more expensive museum glass(clear and preservative).  I believe that one could get by with $100-$200 or so using a cheap frame and glass doing it oneself.  Custom framing would be considerably more expensive.  For example, two posterish sized art pieces i have were $600 and i think $785 or so to have custom framed using museum glass.

Ov course, one does'nt have to frame.  Tacks obviously are'nt recommended though.  One recommendation would be Velcro.  On an unframed fabric piece i have, i used 4 small Velcro rounds on each corner to secure it to the wall.  Keep in mind that if you attach directly to the poster that it may be permanent without risking damage. 

The poster may be a good investment as the people who signed it are still alive.  Ov course, value is a personal assessment.  As to the topic question, i could perhaps see myself spending that money on a signed poster but i'd rather have something owned or created by someone i admire.

I recently bought a production animation cel of a cartoon show when i was a kid, back when hand painted cels were still used to make animation.
