Thanks pal!

So I stumbled upon a little hack yesterday.. instead of untaping the bags when there’s side pins, just pull the bag away from the top ends of the sub block and push down on the top of the bag.. the bag should have enough air in it to pull the bag away from the sides of the sub block but stop so when there’s still ~an inch of the bag still stuck to the bottom of the block… this shortens the height of the bag and creates a bubble around the block for the fruits to grow in..

You have to keep at least some of the bag attached to the block otherwise the bag will fall over, but when you keep it attached, the bag stays nice and supported

Here’s a pea+ f1 clone baggie

Need more headroom in the baggies?  Np..

this is a cool thread, i like cheap simple things like this.  you can't pc ziplocks, but what about those vacuum sealer bags?  i know you can cook with them at at least boiling water temperature, and you can make them any size you want as long as you get the right width.
just an expansion on this idea, which again, i think is a great idea.

Are my bags too wet?  This is after a week.  Do I need more holes in the bags?

Looks alright to me.. I usually keep the bag flap folded over during colonization

And then once you see pins, pull em up

When you have the flap down, you can kind of tilt the block to trap the condensation excess in the flap or just unzip the bag to remove the extra water
Looks like you have a pretty thick top layer.. I usually go about a 1/4” but yours should still be good to go.  I like the thinner layer because it gets partially colonized fairly quickly and I can turn the blocks upside down to get rid of the extra condensation without the loose CV falling everywhere

I've just reread the tek and seen what I've missed, couldn't see why folding over was needed before.  Thanks for the quick reply!

Thanks for the information. I'm giving this a go and wanted to try this with some APE I have about ready. What is the 2 inch top layer your talking about. I was going to grow it like my others.. I do a 2 qt spawn/ 2 qt cvg and a light top layer of just cvg.. think that will work?

here are a few pics i have taken using this.. some i have taken a plastic bag and used as a liner and i have a few that i use bubble wrap tek or whatever.
i love this method so far
and i wanna try APE with this but i wanna get some input from someone that has grown it this way before. can i juse case it with CVG?
anyway, thanks for showing how to do this!!

Got a question... If you look at my 2nd image. You can see I have formed a block of sub with a plastic bag liner and that is set in a 4 gallon bag. I have room to pull the liner away from the block and expose all the side of the block. Would doing this increase yeild? After I remove the liner there is plenty of room all around the block to grow in the bag.

Some 2nd flush blocks coming in

It took me a year but I found out the pea+ f1 clone does best uncased in bags.. I tried almost every top layer depth and when to add it and I should’ve been doing nothing tge whole time

Gandalf zipblock.. already harvested 3/4oz from this guy
