Herb grow box

So, I've decided to make my own grow box so I can have my own supply of herb... Basically, its a 2'x3' box made of plexiglass siliconed together. There is a plexiglass door on the front of it, with foam tubing around the edges to make it secure. There is also a lock. I have included plans of the box I want to build, actually 3 variations of it. There is an ebb n flow hydroponics system inside of it which can hold up to 6 plants. Everything is run on a timer. Ventilation is provided by computer fans w/ magic micron filter disks over the intake fans and the exhaust is hooked up to a homemade carbon filter. Any comments or suggestions on how to improve this idea would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm going to cover the outside of it in a reflective foil, and maybe put some foil tape on the bulbs.

Hola Shitstick! :grin:

I like your designs.  A nice enclosure for a stealth grow.  However, as zeta expressed - flouro's are not very good for flowering marijuana.  It can be done, and I've seen it done well in some cases, but if you really want to reap the rewards of your work in the garden -- I suggest you pic up a horticultural light (e.g. high pressure sodium).  However, then you have to deal with the heat in a small enclosure so perhaps the flouro is a good bet.  However, I think you should at least double the amount of flouros you plan to use (judging by your diagrams).  You can really pack 'em in there, as they won't produce much heat and you need a lotta lumens to get some dank nugs/yield. :cool:

Additionally, I noticed you have fans on both your intakes and outakes.  This really isn't necessary, and in the case of your second and third design it will actually slow things down since you have two fans pulling in air and only one pushing it out through a smaller total exhaust.  I suggest you have all your fans used as exhaust and drill a hole as a passive intake.

edit: just re-read your enclosure is planned 2x3' - in that case, definitely go with flouros, but I'd mount a nice 4-6 tubes on the ceiling and then the four on the sides too :sun:

If you go with flouros, check out power compact lighting. Not a lot of heat but they produce a TON of light. They're very popular in reef aquariums and planted tanks. You can find some retrofit kits for 40-60 bucks.

Well, I think that I'm going to invest in white plexiglass for the sides and a sheet of clear plexiglass for the front (door) so I can see in and access stuff. Some people on Overgrow said that humidity shouldnt be a problem if I have the lights in there as long as my ventilation system is addequate. Now, if I have the two fans on the side running for intake, and just that one carbon filter for the exhaust (passive, remember that the hole for it is like 4") odor should be controlled... Hopefully. I;m doing bag seeds right now, but I picked up some Passion #1 in Canada... Hopefully that will work out. I should have my own herb by 4/20! :smile: If only I had some clones though... :wink:

Clear plexiglass? You want 100% darkness when you are flowering and in the dark cycle. Light leaks during flower= bad news= hermie plants.

Hermaphrodites wouldnt be that bad... Atleast I would know that all my seeds produced would be female :laugh: I might just go with painting it white then painting it black over that. I want at least one part to be clear so I can see inside to my handiwork.

Wow! Those are some cool plans. I like how neat organized and easy to read it is. Plus the design looks sweet. However everything i was going to say was already said by Geokills. So read what he says, that goes double for me! Can't really feasibly put "good" lights in there, so pack in the fluorescents!

You'll still get something, and basically you're doing the best with what you got. Can't ask for more than that.

Well if that is the case at least rig a blanket or something over the clear part so you can cover up. The bad thing about seeds is you get less bud since the plant has to put energy in to making seeds.

Also, if you are worried about the next crop, just take a cutting and grow that, best way.

I see your point. I'd rather have super dank buds and then less dank buds +seeds + clones. It would just be a waste. I think I will get a piece of mylar for the door. Cant you see throught on side of that stuff?

Not true. The new T5 fluoros that run on an electric ballast can grow some shiznit nugs. Flouros may not make buds the size of donkey dicks, but they aren't hot which is a major concern for some.
