Well since shrooms aren't physically addictive, you should do them if you feel like it. After all, they aren't something that you can do everyday. What I mean by that is that if you do them everyday, they loose their luster and become boring, and you won't have a desire to do them anymore anyways!

The treatment of alcoholism with LSD has shown marginal sucess, and in fact, relapse rates for alcoholics treated with LSD are very close to alcoholics treated through conventional psychotherapy.

I do think that LSD and mushrooms have therapeutic value. Apparently, in Switzerland (where LSD is legal in psychotherapy), there has been sucess in overcoming trauma from NAZI concentration camps.

I know from personal experience that LSD and mushrooms can have antidepressant effects. The problem is being able to predict when an LSD trip or mushroom trip will give you a positive outcome (antidepression) or a negative outcome. I think that LSD and mushrooms should be made available to people, probably, after a psychiatric evaluation, which if you qualify, you're given a temporary permit to possess LSD (or shrooms) for a given number of days.
Obviously there are enormous systematic problems with that approach, but it's still better than simply throwing people in jail because they're smart enough to know that LSD can have good effects, and they choose to break the law due to that knowledge.

Also, people don't deserve to go to jail because they choose to use a substance. Substance abuse is typically associated with mental illness. People need help.
Occassional substance use, "experimentation" as it were, is not criminal behaviour.
