to my mind, "mushroom kits" are a waste of time and a waste of money. you're spending a fair amount of money on something that's not going to get you too many shrooms. you're best bet is to simply make a list of supplies (by using one of the many mushroom teks) and head down to a hardware and health food store and get everything you need at a cheap price. that way you can be the judge of how many shrooms you want to grow, and not leave it up to someone else. as far as strains go, i'd suggest you just go with the classic pf strain for your first time. to my mind, its the easiest to grow.

I think, and have also heard that kits are a waste of money (but maby not time). I would forget the idea of bulk growing and start off with a more simple stragity, ie. - the PF Tek or MMGG (Magic Mushrooms Growers Guide). Both found in the grow/find section (you can find the link in the left-most frame). If you decide to go the PF Tek without any kits, I will run down some of the *main* supplies you will need, but they will also be explained in the tek. First off all, you will not need all this at once. It can be cheap, or it can be expensive. I would estimate a starting price of $30 to $60 for a small to medium sized operation. 1) Jars - 1/2 pin, wide mouthed (the top is bigger than the bottom. This is so the cakes can easily slide out!). Probably $6 for 12. 2) Spore Syringe, from $10 to $15. You can find these from the spore dealers on this site. There are certain strains that you can choose from. A good beginner strain is the PF tek. A fast colonizer, good fruiter and pretty strong mushroom. Overall a great choice. 3) verm. (short because I am too lazy to look how to spell it, sorry ) $2 for a middle sized bag. Used as the substrate and caseing material (caseing is more advanged, lay off ) 4) brown rice flour. grind up your own from brown rice or buy it. Probably $2 for a pound bag 5) perlite, read the perlite FAQ, I am too lazy to explane. 6) dessicant, for the drying of mushrooms, also used later. search around for I am also too lazy to explane this thats a *very* basic run down so PLEASE read some of the teks out there! sorry, but I am a lazy man and dont have the time to tell you everything you would like to hear, but I hope I helped

If you're friends are somehow finding out you have them (word will spread like wild fire), I don't think it's friends knocking on your door you have to be afraid of. Cops will not like the idea of you cultivating illegal mushrooms, and if they know you are, you can bet they'll be at your door. If you do it, keep it quiet. Tell no one. If you don't tell anybody, there's no one that knows. When no one knows, you have nothing to worry about. As for your question, the only kit worth getting is the sporechicks kit. You could do better by shopping for yourself, but if you want a kit, that's the one to get. Very reliable source, as well.

I second that. The Sporechicks have a great reputation, and if you're gonna git a kit, that's the way to go. BUT you should still get a pressure cooker. Really works to eliminate losing anything to contamination.I also recommend syringes from 3mshrooms http://www.3mshrooms.homestead.com/. Excellent quality and fast service. Try the B+. From innoculation to harvest in 23 days.
