If it’s composted manure I’d try it. Shit I only grabbed the organic one in that post because it was like 1.70$ per bag. I figure why not. I stand corrected. It was 1.64$. If I can get 6 subs out of it. That’s 27 cents per sub compared to 1-2$. If you add Verm to your coir then it costs a little more. Verm used to be the additive solely for lowering price per bulk sub in the overall scheme of things. Now Verm can be up to 20$ for 2 cubic foot. I can get it around 14$. I used to get it for 9$ for 2 cubic feet.

Has anyone tried this yet?

I have one SOS tub going that I spawned 7 days ago. I tried Caps' super dry coir (1 brick coir + 2 quarts water) but it was so dry that there were chunks of coir that wouldn't hydrate no matter how much I mixed it (although I didn't mix it until 24 hours after adding boiling water). So I decided to just add water until I reached field capacity (3 quarts water total). Mixed 6 quarts of that coir with 4 myco-quarts fully colonized WBS. Then sprinkled 2 quarts of the coir on top as a psuedo-casing layer. Snapped the lid on and it's been like that for the last 7 days.



I'm getting a ton of condensation on the sides that is dripping down and pooling along the edges. You can really see it on the left edge of the tub on the second picture.

I just flipped the lid to try to get some of that to evaporate... Any advice? Thanks.

I personally would use some paper towel folded into a small triangle, and dab/soak up the pooling, but other than that leave 'er be!

How much do you normally yield with this dry? More than average monos? Honestly seems like twice as many will fit, but Im just curious if this would be a better one hit wonder setup?

Also I wonder do you have any issues with standing water? You dont tamp down the sides you just try to make the whole top flat without compacting too much?

Sounds like you should have stuck with the 2 qts water. The point of using less water is that it's easier to mist a tub that's dry then it is to evaporat the water back out of one. But honestly you should be fine just don't mist it till after you get fruits and don't try to dry it out. After zooming in on your surface I'd just let her be. Hell you may even need a mist in a few days. Looks fine from my couch.

Reason I make them dry, they sweat... I just tilt it all into a corner and drain it off onto a towel in the floor...

As the culture colonized. It takes up space. Which displaces moisture... the mycelium is semi-impermeable, so doesn't hold water as effectively as the previously uncolonized substrate ... these are designed start to finish to be set and forget: this results in seemingly less than ideal conditions initially

Absolutely haha. I'm feeling great. Before my first monotub success I was constantly checking things and worrying something was going wrong... but now that I have seen the whole process and know that it works fairly well, I'm chill.

Yep, I had the same problem. I used 2.75 liters in my first few tubs, WAY too wet. Pulled back to 2 liters and it's just right.  However, I add the water, put the top on to stop evap, wait about 30 mins, then mix up the coir evenly. There are dry chunks in the middle, but I break them up and mix with the rest of the coir, let it sit another hour or so, no more dry chunks.
